Corrie Comicals, week ending 7 December 2018
Toyah under the table (entirely sober) started the comedy this week. Not drunk but hiding from Leanne; only it was not Leanne coming up the stairs to Barlow Legal Services - but Nick. Which reminds me - why did Pat Phelan plant a camera in the stairwell at Barlow Legal Services and when will someone notice it? Toyah and Imran are to keep their romance a secret and yet plan to meet in the Rovers. Can anyone explain how that would work? As widely pointed out online Imran took delivery of a white coffee in Roy's and then was going to add more almond milk to it. Very strange.
"Family evening" chez McDonald - is it not breach of contract for Amy to be using her mobile phone? I have never seen Gilmore Girls - clearly Steve is addicted but neither Tracy nor Amy seem that bothered. I hope that the contract will be around for a long time but I sense it will soon become a failure as it seems Amy is discovering "boys" - well Aadi anyway!
On Wednesday morning the Battersby duo push their beaus out of the front door and they tell each other that they had boring evenings and both would be going to work as normal, neither yet ready to tell the other. Then within seconds they both have the delighted looks of the cats who got the cream. Sadly not in the same single frame - but close. Later both Nick and Imran end up on the balcony together at which point the deception is over leading to the two of them listening to Leanne and Toyah tearing lumps of each other and their boyfriends - see below!
Well Nick / Leanne and Imran / Toyah are back together. Imran assures Leanne he is serious about Toyah this time. Given previous histories I wonder how long Nick and Leanne will last?
As she no doubt intended when she joined Evelyn gets to feature regularly here and this week we see Ty and his Nana just after the departure of Hope (in search of a new set of morals) and Fiz (for arrival of her new baby as reported some weeks ago). Ty is grateful that she is not going - at least whilst Fiz is away so it could be a while before she departs. I hope Cerberus returns soon.
The external shots this week all showed the Christmas decorations around the Street and in the Community Garden and for reference I can report that this was exactly as we saw the set dressed when we visited at the end of September so this was recorded about 8 - 9 weeks ago.
My fashion sensibilities are non-existent but I have to ask what Carla thought she was doing wearing this particular creation. She is answering the phone as her own pa at this point (which raised a smile hereabouts) having sacked Sarah-Louise. Now I ask you is it wise to sack your partner's sister?
Although we did not get an ensemble event in the factory this week we did have this aside from Carla when asking Beth the new very temporary PA to answer the phone! "Try not to sound like yourself".
Extra at Work
The new customer wants her first order completed tonight and not tomorrow. Meanwhile photobombing the take in the bottom left corner is Dirk who really should be considered for the PA job ahead of Beth even if he cannot speak! Right good with a clipboard though!
Which just about wraps this up for this week.
Writers: Alasdair Morrison (Monday); Julie Jones (Wednesday); Ellen Taylor (Friday)
Directors: Matt Hilton (Monday & Wednesday); Karl Neilson (Friday)
For a special commentary on Mr Hilton's work on Monday evening you should go and read this contribution to the blog. Similarly come Friday I noted some more cute camera work and the credited director (Karl Neilson) is not a name I recognise - that does not mean he is new to the Street but I have not noticed the name before. Whilst still Kate Oates is credited as Producer I get the strong feeling that some new directors are having the chance to do things slightly differently. I wonder if we are on the point of a major step change upwards?
