I'm loving the very slow, very gentle friendship developing between Roy and Cathy. In this week's Inside Soap magazine they reveal more secrets about Cathy which we'll see unfold on the show next week.
As our picture above shows, Roy and Carla are more than a little shocked by the state of Cathy's house. It's obvious to Roy that Cathy has been struggling since her husband died and he offers her some work in the cafe as a way for her to earn some cash. But then the bailiffs start knocking at her door and she's finally forced to confess to Roy how deep she's in debt.
Cathy then leaves her handbag on the bus and it's Roy, driven by Carla, who takes her bag to Cathy's house. Cathy won't let them into the house but when they do eventually get in, they discover Cathy is a hoarder and the house is full to the brim with rubbish. She's clearly not coping well since her husband died and Roy's friendship might just be the thing to pull her out of the depths of despair.

OOOH, we've never had that before if memory serves, a hoarder! Makes a change, a brand new storyline!
Not such a bad hoarder as one of my experience. You can still see the picture rails.
Now that's different.
Perhaps Cathy's only been going through this since her husband died, not decades like some! ;)
I thought she was living in her car or something..but this is a new twist for sure.
This sounds good!
I was discussing this at work today with some friends and made the call she was a hoarder - then read this, so ... OK, the instincts were right. Could be interesting....
I'm game except for the part about her working at the cafe. Roy has a tiny overstaffed business. Carla has a larger company with an opening in the packing dept. where should Cathy work?
I just hope the staff at ITV Corrie have done their homework and get this one right. Hoarding is a form of mental illness and needs to be portrayed accurately.
I'm glad two of the kinder more compassionate characters,Roy and Carla are the ones who discover Cathy's secret rather than Fiz who would've made it about her just as she did when Hayley died.Cathy needs friends who can help and support her,not judge her.
Anon 19.01 you are so right! My elderly Mum had a fall a while ago and while my sisters and I went into her apartment to tidy up before she was released from the hospital we were appalled at the state of her bedroom! She had bags of clothing piled everyone and it took the three of us with patience and understanding to clean the apartment. It still isn't as uncluttered as I would like it but she was really good in understanding for safety reasons she needed to un-hoard. Needless to say we took bags of clothing to charity shops! My Mum has had a hard life and she kept every gift and card that her grandchildren had given her (the oldest is 27)for sentimental reasons. We organized everything and once we had emptied a closet that had stuffed to the roof we were able to keep her momentos.
23:07..you're a wonderful daughter not to judge your mum. Godbless.
Love that pic with Mini-Me Carla in the middle! It's all a matter of perspective!
