It's Friday again so it's time for this week's fab Coronation Street
photo. Last Tuesday marked the 50th anniversary of Hilda Ogden's first appearance on Coronation Street, so here she is looking a little down in the dumps. But who is the character, often mentioned but rarely seen, who is with her?

Is it Doctor Lowther - who she moved to Derbyshire for to become his housekeeper?
Dr Lowther isn't it?
That's Dr Lowther who she worked for.
Lovely Dr Lowther! I remember when the actress who played Mrs Lowther came back to play Bettys oldest barmaid competitor many years later!
Yes, I remembered him right away, the good doctor Lowther. He was very kind to Hilda and it was lovely to hear she'd gone off to such a nice place to keep house for him, but I do still miss Hilda!
Dr Lowther played by the wonderful David Scase who, for many years, ran the Library Theatre Company in Manchester.
Graeme N,
June Broughton played Mrs Lowther and, in another connection with the show, she was the daughter-in-law of Arthur Leslie who played Jack Walker from 1960 to 1970.
Yes, I too recognize the kind doctor who later loses his wife and Hilda goes off to live in his wonderful house to keep house for him.
With this wonderful exit from the Cobbles, I think Hilda got a lot of what she could only fantasize about during her life with Stanley in the Cobbles-- a comfortable beautiful home, the good doctor as both employer and friend and a certain kind of rise in social class.
This portion of the show is way beyond my years as a viewer of this soap so can someone tell me HOW she is supposed to have met this doctor in the first place to keep house for him and his wife?
You'll probably get a more direct answer to your question about Hilda and Dr. Lowther, Anonymous, but below is a link to a great site with a fascinating back story to Hilda and her life on the street which mentions how she first met Dr. Lowther.
