On this, the day of Ashley Peacock's funeral, we look back on the life of the congenial butcher. Ashley grew from a meek and mild teenager into a meek and mild, but very nice man, loyal friend and good father.
We met Ashley in 1996, the young butcher apprentice to his uncle Fred Elliott whom we later discovered was really Ashley's dad. Ashley has been married twice, to Maxine and Claire. He has raised Maxine's son, Joshua, as his own and has a child with Claire, Freddy.
He died a hero, holding up beams from a collapsing ceiling so Nick Tilsley could get an injured Peter Barlow out of the rubble. He will be missed.

Terrific article but Ashley first appeared in 1995 (Episode 3812 on 1st February to be precise) and not 1996.
Disappointed that we didn't see his funeral on screen. Bit of an insult IMO, considering he's been a character for 15 years...
One of my favourites was our Ashley. I say one of my favourites.
I thought it was strange too that Ashley's funeral was overlooked. He was loved much more than Molly!
Yes it was very strange that Ashley didn't have an on sceen funeral especially as we the viewer was then still expected to grieve for the character as Claire went on the emotional rampage with Nick. The whole reason is Ashley wasn't involved in an important enough story line for the producers to warrant spending any more on another funeral instead we had to watch a repeat of Tyroe doing exactly the same thing he did at Jacks funeral. So basically it was stuff any respect for Steven Arnold as an actor and stuff the viewers loyalty for tuning in and supporting the Ashley character over the years. Disgraceful penny pinching crass. All we got in place of Ashleys death was a page of exposition. Naff writing. It makes you realise just how much they wanted him out and how much they didn't care about him as an actor or character. What the hell is kirk still in it for?
