Joanna Lumley reveals Corrie secrets on new live tour

Joanna Lumley has made no secret of wanting to return to Coronation Street. You can read more on that here.

Well, if she did ever return as Ken's girlfriend Elaine Perkins, her on-screen appearance might just have to wait.  Joanna  has announced her first ever live tour called It’s All About Me and it's a 30-date tour, kicking off on the 6 October 2018 at Belfast’s Waterfront Hall.

Joanna will discuss her four-decade-spanning career, recounting some never before heard stories.

“The thought of this tour next year, travelling across the British Isles and Ireland, has completely taken over my waking hours,” Joanna Lumley announces. “It’s utterly thrilling to start planning the stories I can tell, and the rapture (and gratitude, to be fair) with which I shall greet the audiences. Nothing like this has come my way before, and I may have to be dragged off with a hook at the end of each show. Oh people! This is especially for you from me, with masses of love. I think it will be fabulous.”

Joanna Lumley: "I begged Corrie to make my role permanent"

Joanna Lumley once played the role of Ken Barlow's girlfriend Elaine Perkins on Coronation Street. And she's made no secret of the fact that she remembers her time on the show very warmly indeed.

And now, this week, Joanna tells Steve Wright on his BBC Radio Show that she became rather fond of the Weatherfield cobbles: "I begged Coronation Street to make me permanent!"

Joanna Lumley has never made secret of the fact that she loved her stint working on Coronation Street as Ken Barlow's girlfriend Elaine Perkins. Last year, interviewed on BBC's The One Show, she said once more that she felt her time on Corrie was much too short.

We can only agree.

I say bring her back, even just briefly, for a fling with King Ken.

When Stephanie Beacham was cast in the role of Ken's girlfriend Martha Fraser (the actress lady who lived on the barge), Joanna Lumley hinted at the time that she nearly returned to Coronation Street to play that role, but was too busy at the time.

You can listen to her interview here.

Joanna Lumley to return to Coronation Street?

Kym Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor in Coronation Street, writes a weekly column for OK magazine. And in this week's column, she suggests bringing back Joanna Lumley to reprise her role as Ken's love interest Elaine Perkins in the show.

Now, I think this is a superb idea. And Kym writes in her OK magazine column: "Apparently Joanna Lumley would love a return to the cobbles. She played Ken Barlow’s girlfriend Elaine back in 1973. She’s an iconic actress, so it would be wonderful to have her back."

And it's something that Joanna Lovely Lumley herself has talked about not too long ago, when she was interviewed on BBC's The One Show. She talked then about how leaving Corrie was the saddest thing she's ever had to do.  You can read more on that here.

Could the time be right for her to return? Ooh, yes please make it so!

Bring back Joanna Lumley to Coronation Street

Actress and national treasure Joanna Lumley once appeared on Coronation Street as Elaine Perkins, Ken Barlow's girlfriend. This was back in 1973.

Joanna was interviewed on BBC's The One Show last week. She was there to promote her travel show which starts this week. It's called Joanna Lumley's Trans-Siberian Adventure and it begins tonight, Sunday 12th July, at 9pm on ITV.

Anyway, while she was being interviewed on The One Show, Joanna Lovely Lumley talked about her time on Coronation Street.  She was asked about the saddest job she's ever had to leave - and she said it was leaving Corrie.
"I had to leave Coronation Street," she said. "Ken Barlow asked me to marry him and I wanted to 'cos I was very, very poor at the time and I had no work. And I was in Coronation Street for eight episodes and I said 'Can't I say "yes, I'll marry him' and they said 'No, you've got to say "no".'  So after eight episodes, I left and my heart was broken."

Joanna admitted that if she had stayed on Coronation Street she wouldn't have had the acting career she would have had but, she said: "I might have still been on Corrie. I might have just loved it."

When Stephanie Beacham was cast in the role of Ken's girlfriend Martha Fraser (the actress lady who lived on the barge), Joanna Lumley hinted at the time that she nearly returned to Coronation Street to play that role, but was too busy at the time.

I'm not suggesting Ken gets another girlfriend just yet, by the way. It's far too early days for that kind of talk. Ken needs time and space to mourn the passing of Deirdre... as do we all.

Joanna Lumley's Coronation Street regret

We blogged a while ago here that Joanna Lumley was asked to return to Coronation Street. But when she couldn't, because of filming schedules, Corrie asked Stephanie Beacham in for the role of Ken Barlow's girlfriend, Martha.

In an interview with today's Guardian, Joanna reveals that being unable to return to Corrie as Ken's girlfriend Elaine Perkins caused her "no end of anxiety".

Let's just hope that Corrie has the good sense to ask her again, and get her in to return as Elaine in the future. Oh, she could turn out to be the mother of Ken's mystery son who's going to turn up out of the blue...

It should have been me

Joanna Lumley recently said that she'd love to walk the cobbles of Coronation Street again. Her first appearence was as Elaine Perkins, one of Ken's many girlfriends. "Ken asked me to marry him and I said no," she recalls. "I thought, 'Why can't I say yes so I can be in it for longer!'"

She also says she was up for the role of Martha Fraser. "I was nearly going to be the woman on the barge who Ken had an affair with. I begged the producers to alter the filming dates because they clashed with mine but they said Stephanie Beacham had got it."
It's probably too soon for Ken to have another fling but it would be nice to see her back all the same. What do you think?
