Corrie Extra: Gary's Army Diaries aired on ITV2 last night with 10-15 minutes extra footage than the online specials. It featured scenes of Gary moving into Izzy's house, and Izzy discovering the camera.
The TV edition focused even more on how the events of the diary affected Gary, and how the horrors of war may never leave him. The scenes of the roadside bomb still manage to make my blood run cold.
I hope the British Soap Awards add an award for best online drama, because this would win without a doubt.

Mikey North feels good about his work
You might not think that watching Gary cower and sweat in a panic while experiencing post traumatic stress is something that would inspire someone would you? But it has. Mikey North speaks to the Daily Record and says that he's had a man come up to him in the street and praise his storyline saying it inspired him to do something more with his life.
Mikey has done his research well, speaking to soldiers that have been through things like Gary has. He's been told that the flashbacks can occur any time and over a long period of time and are usually triggered by something. In Gary's case, it was the tram crash and carnage initially and, more recently, the idea of being confined in small spaces.
There's also a few spoilers about the upcoming spinoff on ITV2 on Monday night at 10:00 pm. The ITV.com short pieces about Gary's experiences in Afghanistan have proved so popular that they've filmed a 30 minute special called Gary's Army Diaries. We see Gary and Izzy moving in together and watching some of the video footage Gary shot while on duty with his best mate Quinny.
There's another interview with Mikey on the same subject through a link here. It should be very good and I, for one, will be watching it.

Behind the scenes: Gary's Army Diaries
ITV.com have posted a blog from Danny Whitfield, director of the Corrie spin-off 'Gary's Army Diaries', along with a behind the scenes look at how it was all filmed.
It's quite revealing, it turns out 'Afghanistan' is actually in Bolton!

Gary's Army Diaries - Episode 3
In the third and final episode, Gary wakes up in a military hospital, plauged by dreams of the events of episode two. A nurse is the only company that Gary has. Gary's things are brought back from Afghanistan - including his diary.
This has been a brilliaint spin-off series, and has really added to the Afghanistan storyline, I'd love for Corrie to do more of the same in the future.

Gary's Army Diaries - Episode 1
Corrie online spin-off 'Gary's Army Diaries' is now up of the Corrie website. The spin off will follow the story of what exactly happened with Gary in Afghanistan.
The first episode is mainly Gary being excited about being in Afghanistan. It's very well filmed, and I can't figure out if it was actually filmed abroad, or green-screened
