Bruno Langley apology: "I'm so ashamed"

Bruno Langley, who recently parted company from Coronation Street, is interviewed today in The Sunday Mirror in what they are calling "a searingly honest interview – and at times with tears streaming down his face"

Bruno talks about being found guilty in court for sexual assault and issues an unreserved apology to the women he groped on a night out. 

He says he ad a “total blackout” on the night of the attacks after a two-day booze binge – typical of his “drink, drink, drink” lifestyle. And he also says that he only found out he had groped two women the following day when a shocked friend texted him.

He tells the Mirror that he's quit booze after drinking daily for two years and now attends Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and has vowed to change his behaviour and lifestyle “so that this will never happen again”.– the actor says: “I know I’ve let so many people down and I’m under no illusions here, this was all my own doing.”

Bruno Langley pleads guilty to sexual assault charges

Bruno Langley has today been in court at Manchester Magistrates' Court on the charge of sexual assault.

Bruno Langley admitted groping two women in a music venue. The women reported being assaulted at the Band On The Wall on Swan Street in Manchester on 1 October.

Langley, 34, of Altrincham, pleaded guilty to two sexual assaults at Manchester Magistrates' Court and was told he may face a custodial sentence.

The actor, who played Todd Grimshaw for 16 years, left the ITV soap after an internal inquiry in October.

The court heard Langley had grabbed the crotch of one woman and touched the breasts and bottom of the other while drunk.

Prosecutor Karen Saffman said Langley had been "clearly intoxicated" when he approached the first woman, who was out with her husband.

Reading from the woman's victim statement, she said he had "properly grabbed" her crotch with a "rough grab".

Ms Saffman told the court a man who was with Langley had then apologised for the actor's actions and the woman had gone to the toilets, where she was approached by his second victim who told her she had also been attacked.

She said Langley had also sexually touched two other women, but had not faced charges over those assaults.

District Judge Mark Hadfield said he would consider a probation report, which was being prepared, before deciding if Langley would be sentenced at the court or be sent to Manchester Crown Court, where he could face a longer penalty.

Bruno Langley in court today on sexual assault charge

Coronation Street star Bruno Langley is due to appear in court charged with sexually assaulting two women at a Manchester music venue.

The 34-year-old actor, who left the ITV soap in the wake of the allegations, is expected to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Tuesday morning charged with two counts of sexual assault.

Greater Manchester Police said they had received a report that a woman in her 30s had been sexually assaulted at a music venue on Swan Street, in the city's Northern Quarter, at about 1am on Sunday October 1.

On Friday October 20, the force received a report that another woman, in her 20s, had also been assaulted at the venue on October 1.

Langley made his Corrie debut as Todd Grimshaw in 2001 and was the first openly gay character in the soap.

In a statement released before he was charged, the actor said: "Sadly, I will no longer be working on Coronation Street. Acting on the show has been the fulfilment of a personal dream.

"Playing the role of Todd Grimshaw since I was 17 years old has been a huge part of my life, and an absolute honour.

"I would like to thank all of my friends who work on the show for their love, friendship and support during this extremely difficult period."

According to a source, his contract ended on October 26 following an internal inquiry into the assault allegation.

Langley has also had roles in Doctor Who, Dalziel And Pascoe and in several theatrical productions, including Calendar Girls and The Mousetrap.

Bruno Langley charged with two counts of sexual assault

Bruno Langley has been charged with two counts of sexual assault.

Police were called to reports that a woman in her 30s had been sexually assaulted at a music venue in Manchester on 1 October.

Mr Langley, 34, of Altrincham, who played Todd Grimshaw, is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on 28 November.

The actor left the soap following an internal inquiry, ITV said.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said the force "received a report that a woman in her 30s had been sexually assaulted at a music venue on Swan Street in the Northern Quarter".

In a statement on Sunday, Mr Langley confirmed he had left Coronation Street but denied any claims of wrongdoing.

He said: "Sadly, I will no longer be working on Coronation Street. Acting on the show has been the fulfilment of a personal dream. I will make a further statement in due course, and when I am able to do so."

The actor played Todd Grimshaw, the first openly gay character in the soap's 57-year history, after first joining the programme in 2001.

He also appeared on two episodes of Doctor Who in 2005.

It is understood that Mr Langley's contract with the show ended on 26 October following an inquiry.

Corrie storylines rewritten after Bruno Langley leaves

Coronation Street are rewriting storylines to explain Todd Grimshaw's absence following Bruno Langley leaving the show.

It was confirmed yesterday that Bruno had left Coronation Street and you can read more on that here.

The Radio Times say that Bruno will continue to feature as Todd Grimshaw up until Christmas.

A show insider confirmed to Radio Times that upcoming Corrie episodes will still include storylines featuring the character of Todd and the statement reads:

“Scenes featuring Bruno will continue to be screened until December 24th. These were filmed before our inquiry started. Subsequent storylines beyond this point have been rewritten.”

When Marc Anwar suddenly left the show last year (he played Sharif Nazir) his sudden absence was explained away when he ran off with Yasmeen's mate after having had a seven year affair.

It's hard to know what will happen to the character of Todd - and poor Billy, too, losing the love of his life. I just hope Sean doesn't swoop in and get back together with the vicar.

Bruno Langley has left Coronation Street

Bruno Langley has left Coronation Street.

A spokesperson has confirmed to us here at the Coronation Street Blog today that the actor, who has played character Todd Grimshaw on-and-off since 2001, is "no longer contracted to the show".

Bruno Langley also confirmed the news in a statement to Digital Spy saying it had be an "absolute honour" to be a part of the soap.

Bruno's statement reads:

"Sadly, I will no longer be working on Coronation Street. Acting on the show has been the fulfilment of a personal dream. Playing the role of Todd Grimshaw since I was 17 years old has been a huge part of my life, and an absolute honour.

"I would like to thank all of my friends who work on the show for their love, friendship and support during this extremely difficult period.

"I will make a further statement in due course, and when I am able to do so."

The source also confirmed to us here at the Coronation Street Blog today that Bruno Langley's "contract ended on October 26 following an internal inquiry".

"This inquiry was separate to any police investigation and was independent of any inquiries they are making," they added.

Bruno Langley accused by woman of "acting inappropriately"

The front page of The Sun stopped us in our tracks this morning.

It appears as though a woman has accused Coronation Street actor Bruno Langley, who plays Todd Grimshaw, of "acting inappropriately" after they met in a Manchester bar.

The Sun says that Bruno "is said to be devastated by her claims, which he vehemently denies." and that "ITV launched an internal investigation after she filed an official complaint the next day."

A Corrie source tells The Sun: “He is very upset. This is devastating for him. A complaint has been received and is being taken very seriously. Bruno has been asked to give an account of what happened and that is being checked against the woman’s statement. He doesn’t even know what she is alleging beyond inappropriate conduct. There has been no announcement to cast and crew. Police are not involved at this stage. It is important Bruno is given a fair hearing.”

A Corrie spokeswoman refused to comment on the claims last night.
