Coronation Street Episode Review; Wednesday 26th May 7.30 & 8.30

With last week’s threat surely still ringing in her ears, you’d think Daisy would have listened when Jenny threatened her with eviction! But no, not Daisy. She continued to blackmail Ronnie, slighted Johnny at any given opportunity, and generally just reminded me of 1990’s Corrie bad girl, Tanya Pooley. Tonight, the manipulative minx is still causing trouble so Jenny enacts her threat and tells her to go. However, Daisy plays the emotional card and tells her landlady she has cut family ties and has nowhere else to go. Jenny slowly succumbs, and after Daisy gives a heartfelt apology, she gets a second chance. I’m guessing the Rovers landlady has made a mistake there?

After the taxi threat, Nick is stressing about how to protect Sam and the family and tells Shona and David about the danger they all face. Warning Leanne, he tells her that he has no choice but to stay on Coronation Street. Upon hearing the news, Leanne escapes from the hideout too and confronts Nick. It’s all a bit risky, but she’s adamant that she wants to retract the statements to save Sam from further harm. Imran is mortified and tells them it’s not possible, as it could jeopardize the dropped drug charges and the case overall! The only answer is to go to court but to tell the police the statements were wrong, which would remove Harvey from any wrongdoing. Leanne calls him on the burner phone but the drug dealer isn't convinced by the plan.

Finding out about the kidnap from Shona, Natasha heads to the cop shop to make a statement but is persuaded not to by Shona’s stoic reasoning. Later, Shona is at it again, dishing out info on the day's events to Sharon. Natasha tells Nick that she’s not said anything to the police, is keeping Sam on a close leash, and he can't see his son ever again!

Bernie’s covering for Dev at the shop, and accidentally drops a bottle of salad dressing, only for Evelyn to take a slip and hurt her ankle. Evelyn rests up and is visited by Bernie and Dev at home, and she demands compensation. Milking it for all it’s worth, Evelyn takes full advantage of Bernie’s guilt using her as a home help. Dev pacifies Bernie with the offer of free kebabs for the family.

I’ve enjoyed the Golden Girls living arrangement at 6 Coronation Street, but tonight, it looks as though Yasmeen has finally got her house back!. Cathy’s hoarding secret is exposed by Roy, and ignoring Yasmeen’s plea, Elaine exposes everything to Brian. Cathy tells him that her problem is getting out of hand again and she decides to move home. Elaine is confronted by Yasmeen, and although Yasmeen later apologises, Elaine decides she’s ready to move on too, or more probable, to Tim and Sally’s house next door.

Elsewhere in tonight’s episodes; Steve apologises to Curtis for his behaviour. Later, Curtis, Emma, and Steve bond at the Bistro and help Curtis rehearse for a waiter interview, and find out he’s training to be a Doctor!

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 01 May 7.30pm

Welcome to Wednesday night's part one, wrapped up in handy blog review.

Nasty Nick's new persona is certainly starting to rattle a rather dubious Leanne. What with subtle phrases such as 'the report', 'sabotage' and 'insurance fraud'  being banded around their flat for the past few weeks, Leanne is also starting to square up to sister Toyah, whilst simultaneously questioning her fella's motives.

Mary has had an odd dream about sausage roll men offering her a bite of their heads (hardly Freudian) before ravishing a male manifestation of a scotch egg (I love Mary monologues!). Deciding that the lucid dream is a sign to get back on the dating scene, Tracy soon arranges Mary a date with Polish builder, Jan.

At the kebab shop, the obvious animosity between Chez and Gemma reaches breaking point, and she decides to quit.

Nick tells Leanne he is innocent of any wrongdoing, then thanks her for the support whilst offering her lunch at the Bistro. That is until he's arrested for theft of the factory report. Needing a lawyer, Sally suggests Leanne calls Paula.

Toyah, meanwhile, plays devil's advocate and tries to persuade Imran that Nick may have some subtle motives for the subterfuge.

At the cab office, Tim's struggling to keep up with Sally's bonkers health regime and Eileen is in agreement. Steve seizes the opportunity and subtly invites Eileen around to Sally's for a healthy dinner (kale cookies anyone?).

Brian quizzes Abi on her literary endeavours, as she struggles to conjure up a short story for their English tutorials.

At The Rovers, an upset Gemma seeks comfort in Ryan in the back room, which doesn't go unnoticed by an eagle-eyed Emma.

Questioned by the police, Nick's hardened disposition shows no signs of cracking. As the detectives try to trick Nick, the police also question his financial motives.

Over at Sally's the guests start to arrive for dinner. Spotting Tim's secret snack stash - Sally is not amused.

Leanne thinks that Nick is being stitched up until Shona confesses that she overheard recent admission that 'We've all done things we aren't proud of'.

Is Nick really guilty of reducing the factory to rubble?.

I'll be back soon with a review of the 8.30pm episode.

Speak in a bit!.

Corrie Comicals week ending 26 October 2018

There are a lot of complaints about the darker side of the Street and I started these postings to try and offset some of that negativity, but I really do wonder if someone is losing the plot when discussing the school holiday club and Cathy decides to talk about a university experiment involving cattle prods.  (I always believed the students did it to upset the observers so overplayed the roles deliberately to cause upset - if you have no idea what Cathy & I am talking about: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_prison_experiment)

Mary is now aware that just about everything that issues from Jude 's mouth is a lie and is keen on playing down the "saving of Roy's life" for which Roy nominated Jude for the "Weatherfield Good Samaritan" awards.  A fact-investigator Camilla Seekings (odd name?) is seeking more details of Jude's actions and perhaps having no concern for his personal safety leads to Mary's petulant comment on the risks involved we see above.  Is lying Jude's only failure or is he also a conman and a violent abusive person?

David is of course referring to his beloved brother "Saint" Nick who can do nothing wrong as far as Gail is concerned.  David will inevitably make it up with Nick sooner or later.  Given it is Wednesday I don't understand why David is not at work and why is he watching a programme about our top fashionistas leaving the country for Italy?

Excellent performances this evening from these two.  First up Emma (Alexandra Mardell) is making it so obvious that she fancies Chesney and seems to light up any scene in which she is involved (so keeps appearing here).  Chesney gets a lot of bad press - but as he says compared with Henry and Spike he is normal (which does not play well in a soap) and of course his head is full of Gemma; Emma's face falls completely as Chesney keeps on and on about Gemma.  Chesney (Sam Aston) studiously does not look at Emma during this scene who is emoting all the signs of being attracted to him and obviously just wants to rip his clothes off him (and would like him to rip her clothes off too).  But then most men can't see such signs either.  There was also a lovely comment from Spike the tattooist who offered to put Emma's name on Chesney and if Chesney later went out with Gemma, the extra G could soon be added!

Spike stayed over the Gemma and next morning Rita was cooking some bangers but this sight put Rita right off her chipolatas and she asked if Spike could add to his clothing!

In the Bistro Emma is giving Chesney lessons on how to look after the woman in his life (and taking the benefits in the meantime).  Leanne really knows how to chat up men.  Look at this killer line - it covers being tired with a young child and the work involved.  Nick falls for it and before long they are sharing a brew in the flat.  Can it be long before these two are once again back together?

Extras at Work

In Wednesday at Speed Daal (I think I called it Dahl last week)  the Good Samaritan Award eventually went to Margaret Wilson who had volunteered at the Ladybird Children's Hospital for 15 years and spent much of the episode clearly enjoying herself!  She only received the prize when Jude realised the game was up.

For medical reasons I will not be here next week.  Providing all goes well I should then be back the following week.

Nick and Leanne, Steve and Michelle, Peter and Toyah - Couples under the Microscope

Under scrutiny are 3 couples - , Nick and Leanne, Steve and Michelle, and Toyah and Peter.

Leanne and Nick have been together on and off throughout their adult lives. Should they now realise that they don't really work or should they make a major effort for the sake of the new baby and for Simon, to stay together? Well, try as they might, it seems increasingly improbable that they will not see it through. Only this week, Nick's antagonism and volatility to anything to do with Steve, showed itself again in one of this week's episode

As Liz is Steve's mother and the biological grandmother of Leanne's baby, Nick cannot accept the gift of a Moses basket, which Leanne had graciously accepted, in the full knowledge that this is the day when Steve and Michelle attend their baby's funeral. Demonstrating her emotional intelligence, a thawing towards Liz has occurred in Leanne, in the acceptance of the Moses basket. Nick, by contrast demands that it be removed and not just because he has bought one too, but because he is churlish and ungrateful and because Liz happens to be Steve's mother. As far as I know, Liz has never done anything to hurt Nick and yet he is inexcusably rude to her. That she must be suffering and grieving seems to be an irrelevance to Nick. His selfishness and thoughtlessness get in the way of common decency.

Nick has a further difficulty - Peter. Despite Leanne's reassurances, Nick is jealous of Peter. Viewers will remember that in an unguarded moment Steve confessed to Peter that he was the father of Leanne's baby. It seems unlikely that Peter will not use that knowledge to his own advantage when the moment should arise.

Leanne and Nick's relationship cannot stand the strain. Affected by Liz's loss, it may be that after all Liz may have a role in Leanne's baby's life. That said, Nick may be more than unhappy about that and put a stop to it.

Though temporarily reconciled after their baby's funeral, the future looks less than secure for Steve and Michelle. Inevitably, it will be revealed that Steve is the father of Leanne's baby and in her fragile state, Michelle will be devastated. And what of Robert? So far, having told Michelle that he has feelings for her, might she not take solace in him? She will no doubt discover too that all along Liz knew that Steve was the father of Leanne's baby. It is perfectly understandable that Liz did not reveal what she knew to Michelle. Whether Michelle will see it this way is more than doubtful.

And, may I ask - where is Ryan?

From the beginning, I have struggled to understand why Toyah and Peter can't tell Leanne that they are an item until her baby has been born. My own belief is that Leanne won't really care that much except for an anxiety over Peter's ability to remain faithful.

I wanted to be convinced but Peter and Toyah just don't work for me and that is aside from the coincidence of their ever meeting and then the further step of them deciding to begin a relationship, despite Leanne's past with Peter and the fact that she is bringing up his son.

And what about husband Toby? Toyah has no children and her biological clock is ticking. This may not concern her but then again, if it does, and she may have her maternal feelings stirred up by the arrival of Leanne's baby, it seems unlikely that Peter will be keen for another child.

It was unseemly of  Toyah to allow Simon to take the blame for the cigarettes that Peter had left at Leanne's flat. Has she no moral fibre? What decent adult  allows a child to take the rap for something for which they themselves are wholly responsible?

Maybe it's an obvious conclusion, but, with the best will in the world, it won't last.
