We've done Lemony Coriandery Chicken and Eccles Cakes from former Coronation Street actor Sean Wilson's Great Northern Cookbook, so now for another staple of any good cookbook, soup and bread.
There's not much you can say about Leek and Potato soup. Most recipes are pretty much the same and fairly straightforward and there's nothing exceptional about this one. It produced a thick, creamy and very tasty soup and we both went back for seconds.
Many areas in the north have their version of the oven-bottom cake. Here in the north east we have the stottie but being from the wrong side of the pennines, Sean swears by Oven-Bottom Muffins from Ashton-under-Lyme market. I'm quite new to baking bread but have enough experience to deal with this simple enough recipe. The results were great and they went well with the soup but Sean reckons that they're at the best when used for butties with cheese, jam, cold meats or whatever. I'd love to be able to tell you how good they are for that but my wife quickly snaffled the remaining ones for her packed lunch tomorrow. Looks like I'll have to bake some more.
We've got five copies of Sean's book - The Great Northern Cookbook - to be won in a competition here.

I was startled by the header of this post but only because I had a moment of terror, reminded of the Sean/Hotpot storyline... clearly traumatized, I was thankful to be reminded this is about the real Sean and his cookery book. Whewf!
Gees, your articles always make me hungry! I think there should be a contest on the blog to win one of Sunny Jim's creations! With travel costs, of course... I don't blame your wife for quickly snaffling up the leftovers! Sean should work out some marketing benefits with you!
