This glamorous woman picture is Pamela Guard, a famous singer in the 1950s, but which Coronation Street character did she inspire?
Corrie writer Martin Allen created and named the character after the singer, who he remembered fondly because of 'her enormous knockers'. Apparently she had a lovely smoky singing voice and judging by this publicity picture she was extremely beautfiul too - unfortunately she died in 1989.
Can you guess which Corrie tart she inspired Martin Allen to create on Corrie? Here's a clue, she's sadly no longer part of the current cast.

Hmmm, a tart with a heart that sings? I see a facial resemblance to Elsie Tanner, but did Elsie sing?? I know Ena sang and played piano, but she was definitely not a tart, tho she did have a heart well-protected against those who behaved stupidly. I think of Rita as glamorous and beautiful, and she sang very well, but I certainly wouldn't classify her as a tart -- she has one most generous heart, however. I look forward to you revealing all, Flaming Nora.
Bet Lynch? She smoked. I thought Aunty Pam as she was of the same name. And you've got others like Natalie Barnes or Angie Freeman.
Or Frankie Baldwin?
It is YANA (Lumb)........
Well done Naggymaggy, it is indeed the wonderful Yana Lumb - much missed by this Corrie fan.
Nora, you said Corrie writer Martin Allen created and named the character after the singer - I don't get the connection with the name.
Or am I being thick?
No, you're not being thick. Sorry if I haven't explained it properly but if you google the lady's name, you'll see what I mean...
here she is: http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/individual/311023
Ah good old Google; I looked her up straight away, well, after giving it a good think...and it came up that her name was "Yana" Pamela Guard.
I suppose that was her stage name? What a beauty she was in the b&w photo that accompanied the article on Google.
I really miss Yana too, I do wish they could find a way to bring her back, she was a wonderful character, and brilliantly played by Jayne Tunnicliffe.
