It says here that Geoffrey Hughes, who played Eddie Yates, has turned down the chance to return to Coronation Street.The reason they give is that that Geoffrey now lives on the Isle of Wight as a forester and didn't want to leave to work up in Manchester again. But it's interesting that he was asked, is it not?

He was fabulous. Together with Stan and Hilda the Street had its funniest comedy trio ever.
but he was in The Royle Family recently, so he can't be that determined to stay on the Isle of Wight.
It would be good to see him back for sure
Shame he doesnt want to cross the Solent for just one or two episodes.
I'd like to see him back again. But, if he's happy where he is, best of luck to him.
