Coronation Street senior storyliner Mark Bickerton was interviewed this week in Inside Soap magazine. (I know I blog Inside Soap a lot but it's a cracking magazine and you really should go out and buy it. Every Tuesday, £1.45).
Anyway, Mark reveals the secrets of storylining in Corrie and in the interview he talks about how the storyline with George kidnapping Simon and taking him to Blackpool came about.
He says: "When a couple of the writers came in with a plot about George deciding to whisk Simon away to Blackpool, and the lad subsequently going missing, it won universal plaudits from the team. There was a particular line in the pitch that really grabbed everyone's attention. After much frantic searching in Blackpool, Simon eventually turns up at Ken and Deirdre's doorstep under his own steam and they ask him how he managed to get back to Weatherfield alone - to which he replies: 'On two trains and a bendy bus!' If a pitch is really entertaining like that, it'll obviously get a much better response than a boring, laborious one." Well said, eh?
