Sunday tabloid rumours are afoot that not only will Hilda Ogden return for Corrie's 50th anniversary, but today there's news reports that Julie Goodyear's set to return as Bet Lynch.
I'm guessing this story's not true, anyone know different?

So much of the articles i've been reading about who is or isn't coming back reads very speculative. If any of them are true, i can only see them back for a visit, a very short storyline.
Julie Goodyear has remained fiercely loyal to the show, so it is quite likely that she might return for an episode or two.
If they really do intend to have lots of old faces back, it begs the question, what reason will the script-writers use for their return.
Rita marrying Norris perhaps?
The best reason would've been for Betty's ninetieth birthday, but that would be too far away from the anniversary. With that you could have Bet and Hilda (close friends of Betty) come back.
I read this article this morning and i couldn't believe a word of it. It is total and utter conjecture and not worth printing. It simply will never happen and i cannot see Julie Goodyear returning full time. A guest stint for the 50th will be very welcome but no more than that.
The article also pointed to the reintroduction of both Curly and Maureen. Though both were much loved at the time the show has moved on too much for both to be reintroduced permanently, IMO.
Particularly in the case of Curly. He isn't as popular as Kevin Kennedy would like the media to believe. He had been redundant as a character soon after the Racquel saga and his marriage to Emma was pretty bland overall.
Apparently (rumour has it) that a much loved character will die, leading the way for a funeral. Whether this is a off screen death or on screen remains to be seen.
I hear Jean Alexander has been approached for the 50th. Now if she has turned them down i would kill her character off. The producers have nothing to lose and it would tie in brilliantly for the 50th. Maybe that could be seen as being bitter about being snubbed, but if she isn't going to return for the 50th then she never will make a comeback.
In that case, characters like Bet and Curly could be in line for a guest return.
Other rumours point to Betty being killed off as well.
I agree that Curly was a bit of a nonentity after Raquel, but I think he could be an interesting character again. As regards Betty, I suppose her death could be a good story for the 50th, and a good excuse for a few old faces to make an appearance, but only if Betty Driver is ready to call it a day! They can't axe Betty!
I think bringing back Bet Lynch could go either way. Obviously she's an iconic Corrie character so it would be appropriate, but I think they'd have to be very careful how they went about it, the writing and such. Last time she returned was a fiasco.
I somehow doubt they'd use the death of a very long running character as part of the anniverary celebrations. Betty deciding to retire (maybe with a lottery win or other sudden windfall) would be more likely.
According to one article I read yesterday, the new producer, Phil Collinson, thinks that Corrie has gone too far the way of Hollyoaks with so many young actors, and would prefer to concentrate on more of the older characters. Personally I am all for that, albeit mindful that the older characters just aren't willing to work quite as hard as they used to.
Bringing in new characters that are in their 40s and 50s would perhaps be an option. Personally, I'd rather watch the likes of Eileen or Auntie Pam any day, instead of all the teenage characters and toddlers.
I heard on the radio this morning that Bet, Maureen Holdsworth (why?) and Curley (hooray) will be returning for the 50th anniversary.
