Belle and Sebastian, Daniel and Sinead

Well done to Corrie’s wardrobe department for the absolutely perfect styling of Daniel Osbourne in Wednesday’s episodes.

Daniel was wearing a Belle and Sebastian “Fox in the Snow” T-shirt. If there were ever anyone in Coronation Street I would have bet on being a Belle and Sebastian fan, it’s Daniel.

The Scottish indie pop troubadours are known for their lovely, literary songs and appeal to bookish types such as Daniel. I can well imagine them soundtracking his English literature degree and I hope they brought some comfort during those lonely teenage years when Denise and Ken had abandoned him.

I love Belle and Seb and “The Fox in the Snow” is on their excellent second album, “If you’re feeling sinister”. I’ve always had a particular soft spot for this song. It’s worth checking out below if you’re not familiar with it and the accompanying video by YouTuber Nathan Blair is pretty cute:

The T-shirt can be found here. I might have to copy Daniel and put an order in!

I do hope that Belle and Sebastian will feature in Daniel and Sinead's wedding and that the two of them will enjoy a bright future together. Sinead can set up her vintage clothing store and sell her handcrafted soaps and Daniel can help out while following his dreams of becoming a writer.

I can see them now skipping through meadows and singing Belle and Sebastian songs to each other, defying the laws of soap to live happily ever after. Come on scriptwriters - give us a break from scenes some viewers may find upsetting and let's have something to smile about! The end.

Coronation Street cast cast-offs for sale

Would anyone like to win Cilla Battersby's top? Anyone?  Yes, it's up for sale with a certificate of authenticity from ITV.  You can bid to win it here.

Cilla's top
Now then, I'm not sure why you would frame an item of clothing, but each to their own.

Anyway, also up for sale on eBay is a top worn by Sue Cleaver as Eileen Grimshaw in Coronation Street, and yes it's in a frame.  It comes with a certificate of authenticity from ITV too. You can bid to win it here.

Also up for sale is this replica England football shirt with "Team Coronation Street" on the back of it. It appears as if it's from some sort of ITV corporate match.  You can bid to win it here.

ITV Job Vacancies: Two costume assistants at Coronation Street

This just in from ITV.

Costume Assistant x 2 - an opportunity to be part of the UK's number one soap.

As the success of Coronation Street continues to grow we are currently recruiting permanent Costume Assistants to assist in the smooth running of our costume operation, delivering on screen costume continuity.

As our permanent Costume Assistant, you will help the Supervisor prepare costumes and changes for the shooting day ahead, ensuring that these are returned to the department at the end of each filming day and helping line-up for the following shooting day. You will take responsibility for the general care of costumes and accessories and you will assist with any final adjustments. Ensuring continuity of all clothing and accessories, you will be responsible for taking accurate continuity notes on set.

Our Costume Assistant will join us with experience of working in a costume capacity within TV drama. With your strong interpersonal skills, you will be adaptable in your approach when working with different people, including artistes. Flexible, positive and proactive, you will have creative flair and the ability to think visually. A professional qualification in Art, Fashion or Costume Design is desirable but not essential.

Due to the nature of the role, you will be required to be flexible with regards to working hours and discretion is a must. For continuity reasons you will be assigned to a block, but will also be required to work on other episodes in between blocks.

As a permanent member of the team you must also be adaptable and prepared to work as directed.

EXCLUSIVE: The woman who dressed the Coronation Street icons

Coronation Street fans who watched the ITV programme Goodbye Granadaland a few weeks ago will have seen a lady by the name of Edna Walker interviewed on the show.

Edna was the original Head of Wardrobe when Coronation Street started in 1960.

She's the lady who dressed the women - and men - who went on to become some of our best loved and well known Coronation Street icons.

In an exclusive interview here on the Coronation Street Blog, Edna's spoken to me about her time on the show dressing the Coronation Street iconic characters such as Elsie Tanner, Ena Sharples and Annie Walker.

The interview's long with some great pictures. To give it the room it deserves, it's here on corrie.net.

I hope Corrie fans enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed speaking to Edna and writing her memories to share.
