Corrie's new era

So the new set finally made its debut on screen tonight, heralding a new era for the street, we didn't really get any big wide views of the street tonight, though I imagine that was done purposefully.

Though what we did see was noticeably bigger, while still remaining that Coronation Street look, I have to admit I was quite surprised by how much it actually resembles the old street on screen, the people behind it have done a fantastic job.

We didn't just get a new street tonight, the titles were finally updated to reflect recent changes on the street, with Nick's Bistro now appearing at the end of the street, and a new shot showing the Kabin and Viaduct Street, showing off the new full length viaduct (that used to cut off just after R'Terry's old club).

The new shots in the opening titles seemed to be a bit more in focus too, compared to how they used to look. I can't wait to see how they begin to use the new set in the months to come, could we see some new business' crop up? Or some old business' blow up?

For those of you who missed the titles, or live in Canada, Youtube user Corrie Xtra uploaded the new titles for all to see.

Updated opening titles to be used in Monday's Corrie

Digital Spy has confirmed that Coronation Street will be getting an updated set of titles starting with the next episode on Monday, to coincide with the switch to the Trafford set.

I loved the titles when they were first introduced in 2010, but they quickly dated when a tram came flying onto the cobbles, not to forget the Bistro being built and the Rovers getting a new look.

I'm glad Corrie have used the switchover as an opportunity to update the titles, while the bulk of the titles will be staying the same, the two shots showing the street will be updated to reflect the past few years of changes on the street.

I do wonder if the new set will still feature the tram, which has appeared in the opening titles since 2002.

Coronation Street's titles uncovered

I have recently been looking into the locations used in the Coronation Street opening titles, doing this I have discovered all the locations used, so I took some snapshots on Google Streetview, and posted them all on Corrie Chatter, a Coronation Street forum.

There was too many pictures to post directly on here, so go and have a peek over there. If I got any of the locations wrong (I have a feeling the Castlefield one isn't the right area - though it does have all the elements used in that shot) then tweeter me @WeatherfieldRec.

Update: I noticed Corrie Chatter needs a membership to view, so if you aren't a member, you can view on this forum.

Corrie's HD titles, one year on

It's just under a year since Coronation Street changed it's outdated titles to it's flashy new ones, and added a new updated theme - Much to everyone's disappointment.

So one year on, and the new titles are already looking slightly outdated, with Nick's Bistro still being the boarded up Joinery, the Post Box still being the old version and D&S Alahans old Corner Shop still present. Is it time to change them again? and bring back the traditional theme?

Coming up tonight on Coronation Street

One of the most unexpected moment last night for me was the screen going black with a "Boom!" effect, before coming up with a preview of the 8:30pm episode.

I thought this was a really effective way of making sure people came back at 8:30pm. I wouldn't mind seeing it in some form in the normal episodes. There is also whispers of tonights episode opening with a "Previously..." as the tram crash is shown again, before the episode picks up exactly where it left off, as the theme tune plays over the scene

Watch the new Corrie opening titles

The official Coronation Street site at itv.com has a video of the brand new opening titles.

Have a look here.

Corrie producer Kieran Roberts said: “In our new titles Coronation Street remains the star but we see it as part of a busy, modern Manchester through our opening shots. The overall feel is livelier, more intimate and more colourful and they look stunning, especially in high definition. We think the new titles have a classy, classic, timeless quality but at the same time feel vibrant, fresh and very contemporary. That combination is exactly what we strive for in the show itself.”

What do you reckon?
