The Emancipation of David Platt

To say that the last few years have been tough on David Platt would be an understatement.

Even by soap standards (and being part of the 'cursed' Platt family), he's had a tumultuous time. Following the death of his wife on the cobbles, David has fallen for the mother of her killer, watched as his niece descended into the midst of a sexual exploitation ring, and nearly burnt Anna Windass to a crisp, in a suicidal revenge plot.

However, he has also recently managed to go from a rebellious wild child, jail stints, and pushing his mother down the stairs, to becoming an honest hard-working father.

Without a strong male role model in his life, (the brief reappearance and departure of Martin Platt, cemented thus) it was easy to see how David could quickly become accustomed to a 'bromance' with mechanic newcomer Josh. Although appearing innocent, to begin with (I and the Mrs immediately liked Josh), what was to follow in their relationship, was shocking and I think the worst thing that's ever happened to David.

The storyline has been implicit in opening up discussion regarding male mental health and Jack P Shepherd has been consistently brilliant. Coupled with the tragic demise of Aidan Conner, David rallied against his own feelings of suicide, ably assisted and embraced by the real shining light in his life... Shona. Even David's brief romance with ditzy Emma has done little to dispel Shona's devotion.

As #PhelansRevenge comes to its fruition this week, we will also see David admit his recent assault to his family. Finally releasing weeks of anger and unpredictable behaviour, I think we will see a new side to David in future episodes. Josh will be locked up soon, but will David finally be free of all this trouble?.

Coronation Streets recent storylines on male mental health has caused a plethora of positive social media activity and discussion. It can only be lauded.

I just thought I'd put my musings on this subject, online.  Have you enjoyed the recent 'issue led' stories or have you been in the 'too dark' camp?.

Let us know your thoughts!.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 16th of May 2018 7.30pm

Welcome to Wednesday's edition of the Coronation Street Blog and we are back in double episode review territory.

As last weeks horrific chain of events continues to reverberate around the street, things aren't getting any easier for the Connor clan.

Michelle, having already made Robert aware of Aidan's will, has decided to cancel her wedding. Johnny's health is becoming seriously affected by the loss of his son and Jenny seems helpless. Michelle decides she needs to tell Carla of the Will and its implications.

Summer, however, offers a shred of hope to Jenny with a 'Speak and Save' local mental male health campaign in Aidan's name.

Maybe David could get behind the plan if he is ever released?.

Residing on bail in jail and ahead of his guilty plea, Shona shows resilience and promises to fight for David.

Back at the factory, Carla's grief returns to the surface and explodes in a venomous vocal outburst at Alya. As Carla cannot stand her factory cohort, its only right (and in true Corrie fashion) that Alya is the sole beneficiary of Aidan's Will and the factory!

Losing a brother has hit Carla hard enough, but surely she won't lose her factory?.  We can fear not. Jenny, Carla, and Michelle will become 'Johnny Angels'. A trio taking the fight to Alya, albeit one she doesn't even know exists yet!.

In other news, Tyrone's 'wind man' gives Rita the willies, Zeedan gets the wrong idea about Rana, and Yasmeen decides to divorce Sharif!

Anyway, that's me done for another week. I'm @rybazoxo your self-styled 'Cobbles Connoisseur'

Keep an eye out for @GlennWrites and his 8.30pm episode synopsis.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 2nd of May 2018 7.30pm

Welcome to Wednesday's edition of the Coronation Street Blog and the first of tonight's two episode reviews!.

Toyah's torrid web of lies continues to spin, and her plan to claim Eva's baby looks to be coming to fruition. Eva's baby girl leaves the hospital and her birth is registered but Eva looks fraught with worry, her maternal instincts are clear to see.

Mary 'fishy' plans to save Jude's lies are also in place. The hired actors pre-performance preparation in Preston Petals fools Ken, yet he recognises a vague familiarity in their faces.

Following his false fire alarm fiasco though, it seems they needn't have bothered as Jude is fired from the Marine Life Centre.

Over dinner, the actor's performances descend into a true farce when Brian brings the council job description around for Jude, blowing their cover!. As the dinner descends into drunken innuendo and literal amateur dramatics, it's clear to Angie that something isn't right. When the guests leave, Jude unwittingly admits his career faux par and marital deceit to his wife.

Round at Sally & Tim's, Sally is keen on getting to know her father-in-law Geoff with another Monday night dinner party!. In true Corrie style, it isn't long before Gina & Dev are also invited and Geoff brings Yasmeen, which ruffles Sally's mayoral feathers.

In other news, Jenny postpones the leaving party, Summer asks Aidan a favour, Kirks dog walking business blooms and we discover Weatherfield County's chant!.

Anyway, that's me done for another week. Keep an eye out for tonight's 8.30pm episode review written by @glenn_writer.
