Sally Ann Matthews leaves Coronation Street

Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Bradley in Coronation Street, has announced she is leaving the show.

In an Instagram post, Sally Ann said:

"I was supposed to stay for five months but ended up doing an extra ten years because I loved it so much! It’s time though to play those parts I always hoped I would when I’d ’grown up.’ Thanks Trafford Wharf Rd for the memories and endless laughter x"

We can't wait to see what she'll do next.

Ah, what a pity. I have a feeling that in 2- 3 years time, she could be back - that's if they are kind enough to leave the door open and not kill the character off.

Wonderful actress - so sad to hear this news. Why are all the good ones leaving????

It's probably due to them losing a full 30 minutes broadcast time from January 2026. Fewer episodes mean less airtime for the cast, which I imagine would lead to a reduction in salary.
So it's not surprising that they want to try other outlets.
Some have been written out, such as Craig and Bobby.
I have a feeling that Max was written out too, although some clearly wanted to go, such as Daisy, Jenny, Eileen, Gail, Billy and Yasmeen.
I've already noticed that the appearances of the main support characters, such as Brian and Mary, have been reduced. I don't reckon we'll be seeing Izzy that much, either.
We'll be lucky if we see Ken, Evelyn and Rita once every 6 months.

The new producer is destroying our Corrie. Can anyone save our soap before everyone leaves?

Is it anything to do with the new producer?
Cutting the episodes is a general network decision by ITV. I don't watch it but the amount of Emmerdale episodes per week is also going to be cut.
Contracts on Corrie, for performers, are renewed every year.
I'm wondering if the cast's agents have tried to negotiate new contracts but have failed. Less airtime means fewer plot lines, after all.
As they are a 'big soap name', they've decided to try their chances elsewhere.
I don't blame them but I wouldn't be surprised to see some return in a few year's time.
A regular soap salary, even if it's reduced, is better than none at all.

Jenny isn't anchored to other characters these days. She hardly ever chats with Rita, Johnny died and Daisy left. What a waste of a character. She's a proper Corrie mature woman, still looking gorgeous and bouncing back every time she's knocked down. I hope they don't knock her down permanently so she could return in a few years. I find I'm only interested in Sally and Tim these days.

Daniel Brocklebank didn't want or ask to leave. It came as a complete surprise to him that Billy was to be written out.
Maureen Lipman asked to be written out, and to make appearances as and when required. It was her choice to take a step back

Actually Sharon, I don't think losing one episode a week will have a huge impact on everyone's contracts. They only get paid per episode I believe. They will have a certain number of episodes as a minimum I suppose. However, I could be wrong. Does anyone know the truth about the contracts on Corrie? I suppose it will depend on certain factors including length on time on show, age, average expected episodes, etc

That's surprising about billy. sometimes in the media, the exiting cast say that they looking for a fresh start ect ect when in reality, they've been written out and have had no control over that decision. It must be an occupational hazard in that profession, especially in TV soap.

I suspect this has more to do with Sally Ann Matthews being quite outspokenly critical of the direction the show is taking. At the time I suspected that they'd give her character the minimal amount of screentime until her contract came up for renewal, and it seems that's exactly what they've done. I liked Jenny, she deserved better. Good luck with the future Sally Ann!

You're probably right, fluttershy.
But she could return in few year's time, only to be killed off, like Debbie webster. I don't follow the cast on SM. I just read snippets here and there.
I've read that Logan has filmed his final scenes.
It's funny how Carla rocks up to see Logan whenever she fancies but no- one goes to see Max in prison.
They don't even write to him or call him. In fact, his name isn't even mentioned any more.
I expect in a few years time, he'll be re- introduced (like Simon Barlow) in the form of a new actor.
