The Sun reports today that Coronation Street have signed up actor Aaron McCusker as the new landlord of the Rovers Return.
Aaron will team up with Catherine Tyldesley, who plays Eva Price, to run the Corrie pub. Aaron's character will be Eva's husband.
Aaron played Jamie Maguire in Channel 4’s Shameless.
A TV insider said: "Corrie bosses were never going to take EastEnders shrewd decision to reinstate Kat and Alfie at the Vic lying down. So they took their time looking for the perfect actor to play her husband to Eva as she makes her return to Corrie as the new boss of the Rovers. When Aaron walked in, and once paired with Catherine, bosses knew they had the perfect partnership to run the soap's iconic pub. Aaron will bring his Irish charm to the pub, and the chemistry between him and Cath is electric.
It’s the start of an exciting new chapter in the pub’s history.”
Let's just hope it works.

oh dear - just pack the show in now.
He was excellent in "Hope Street", so I am sure it will work well. I do wish that they wouldn't make his mother "interfering" though - such a cliché!
This just reminds me of when St Ella of the Backroom took over the Rovers with her feckless husband That Bloke From Taggart and Sue Johnston as her mom. She even had an annoying daughter (I assume Eva will have Baby Susie in tow, who would be about 8 in reality but is bound to be yet another stroppy teen in Soap years).
Yawn.
This might work if they got rid of the mother in law.
