Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 27th March 8.30pm

At the Rovers, a distraught Kate is consoled by her family; swiftly followed by Imran and Saira.

Reading the letter out loud, Saira realises just how much Kate loved her daughter and relinquishes her decision to ban Kate from the funeral.

At the Bistro, Ryan and Ali confront Robert about his disappearance and tell him about the factory roof collapse.

On the phone to Peter, Gary demands his blackmail cash and panics as he needs the money immediately. Threatening to backtrack on the blackmail, Peter promises to get him the cash quickly.

At the mosque, Rana's relatives and family are dressed in a traditional Islamic dress, in honour of her passing.

As her coffin is taken into the ceremony,  Alya introduces the audience to the intricacies of a Muslim funeral. Facing the anguish of Rana's sudden loss, Imran seeks solace in Toyah. Denouncing the supposed hypocrisy of the traditions, Imran's soliloquy certainly carries some weight.

As head of the family, Imran must also oversee Rana's burial. Rather than face it alone, Toyah asks Johnny to be by Imran's side, with which the recently bereaved Johnny agrees.

Back at the Bistro, Michelle confronts Robert and is exasperated at his reluctance to stay around Coronation Street, as he plans to leave again. Consoling Kate, Robert is heartbroken at Rana's passing and receives succinct advice from the grieving bride. Deciding to stay on, Robert promises to stick around, which only riles Ryan. Meanwhile, Michelle asks Ryan to keep an eye out on the rogue chef.

Examining Sylvia's ring, Wayne considers the inscription and where the ring actually came from.
It seems to the ring was made in Egypt which prompts the sleuths to seek further clues.

Out on the street, Gary realises that the builder's yard has been broken into.

Back the pub, the mourners raise a toast to Rana but Sally's presence isn't welcome. Alya's grief is again brought to the surface which prompts Imran to question why the roof came down in the first place, telling Kate that he needs to speak to Carla and urgently.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 27th March 7.30pm

Its the day of Rana's funeral.  At The Rovers Carla texts Michelle to let her know that she won't be there for her sister.

Roy tells Wayne that he accidentally set the boat on fire, but Wayne dismisses his worries that it had anything to do with the factory roof collapse. Gary questions Wayne's coincidental connection to the factory, whilst Sarah's struggle to find more work causes Gary to ponder Peter's blackmail offering.

Later, Gary makes an angry phone call to someone and demands cash. Can we assume its Peter that he's talking to?

Ahead of the Islamic funeral, Imran is still struggling to come to terms with his mother's insistence in a traditional send-off. As Kate visits Imran, Saira makes it clear that she doesn't want Kate attending the funeral. She says it due to fears of local gossip but fails to hide her conspicuous homophobia.

Imran struggles to contain his anger but Kate admits defeat and gives Imran a letter to read out at the ceremony.

Back behind the bar of the Rovers, Michelle wishes she could help out but Robert is still awol from the Bistro. Ali visits his mum and laments at how he felt being with Rana in her final moments.
Later on, Ryan and Ali head over to open up at the Bistro but the place is unlocked. Fearing a break-in, they find Robert has returned.

Also at the Rovers, Roy and Wayne reminisce about their past times on Coronation Street. Introducing Wayne to Brian, Brian admits that he is still struggling to solve the mystery of Sylvia's ring but Wayne offers to investigate instead.

In the back room, Kate tells Johnny and Jenny that she won't be attending the funeral, but they still can. Although struggling to keep it together, Johnny knows that his daughter's grief is only just beginning.

Meanwhile, Sally exits the taxi having arrived back from the hospital, and is confronted by a grieving Alya. Blaming Sally for the loss of her best friend, she is also warned to keep her away from Rana's funeral.

On Victoria Street, Imran fervently defends Kate and passes the heartfelt written note to his Mother.
Can Saira really stop Kate from saying a final goodbye to Rana?.

I'll be back soon with a review of the 8.30pm episode. See you in a bit.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 20th March 8.30pm

As promised, here is part two of this Wednesday's Corrie, all wrapped up in a handy blog review.

With the factory in ruins, Kate is frantically on the phone to Rana as the rescue teams rally round the street. Falling in and out of consciousness, Rana hangs on for dear life. The rescue team, sensing that the factory is now safe, head back into a collapsed Underworld. Ali the doctor also joins the search.
Whilst Carla is (characteristically) at an unfamiliar pub, Peter and Ken are still on their way to Southampton until they receive a call about the accident.

Fearing for Carla, Peter's recent ambivalent feelings subside, and declaring his love for the factory boss, he decides to travel back to Coronation Street.

Back at the wreckage, the emergency teams race to rescue Rana. As Ali locates the stricken bride, he realises that her life is slowly ebbing away and she is struggling to remain conscious.

Quickly locating Rana's phone, Ali speaks to Kate and Imran on the phone and breaks the devastating news that Rana has died.

Arriving back on the street, a stoic Carla stands aghast at the tragic scene she is met with, almost statuesque - and in incredible shock.

Back inside the ruinous Underworld, it transpires that Rana is actually still alive (Ali must have felt some Ronan guilt then) and Kate and Imran talk to her on the phone, hoping to raise her spirits.

Feeling helpless, and in typical Kate fashion, she pushes the emergency services aside so she can speak to Rana face-to-face fearing her fiancé's life is about to end.

At the barber shop, David collars Nick and asks him if he had anything to do with the roof collapsing. Nick displays no feeling of guilt and gives David's accusation short shrift.

Peter tracks down a frightened Carla, who is sat on the floor in a foetal position, and in a harrowing state of despair.

Feeling that her final breaths may be imminent, Rana asks Kate to marry her immediately. With speeches reminiscent of Shakespeare, and a romanticism that could have well been written by Lord Byron, the doomed lovers embrace for a final time and Rana's life ebbs away.

Meanwhile, as Peter consoles Carla she admits what she knew about the dangerous factory roof, then Peter receives a phone call from Michelle, revealing the terrible news to a distraught Carla.

Imran stands in amazement amongst a hive of activity, as an aerial shot of the street brings the drama to a close.

Coronation Street Episode Review; Weds 20th March 7.30pm

Welcome to this week's explosive edition of the Coronation Street blog!

The fallout from the factory roof collapse is obviously central to tonight's drama and of course the wedding of  Kate and Rana. But before that, we have the immediate aftermath of the street's latest disaster.

Has one of the knicker factory girls stitched their very last?

As the episode begins, we approach an eerily silent Underworld. With Gina's screams fading into the distance, we see Sally unconscious on the floor with dust and masonry displaced all around.

A blast sound ricochets around the cobbles and the residents are soon out of their houses.

Meanwhile, at the posh hotel, Kate nervously awaits for Rana to arrive and begins to panic. The wedding guests are oblivious to events unfolding back on the street.

Waking from the roof collapse, it seems Paul, Gemma, Sean, Kirk, and Emma (phew!), are uninjured. Kirk, however, has his legs trapped under debris which is continuing to fall. Comedicaly, still munching his mini-cheddars, Kirk notices that a live cable has fallen from the roof, it's evident that an electrical explosion is a real possibility.

Meanwhile, the street's alpha males; Tim, Tyrone and Gary (alongside Abi) are quickly inside the factory. Turning the power off, Abi seems to have averted any explosion, and briefly avoids falling debris herself (you had me worried there, Corrie!) before escaping the scene.

Coming out of the factory, the staff appear to be safe (including a previously missing Izzy) with Kirk relatively unscathed. Unfortunately, Sally still lies amongst the rubble.

Back at the wedding venue, Rana still hasn't arrived. Sure that she wasn't at the factory, Imran calls Kate to tell her about the accident and to let her know that Rana should be safe. Leaving her fiancee a voicemail, Rana gives a Kate a quick call back; just to let her know that she's trapped under a precariously placed steel beam (and an office door) inside Underworld.

Pulled safely from the wreckage, Sally is immediately taken to the hospital. Tim is furious at Gina for leading her to the roof, whilst an upset Abi is consoled by Seb. Meanwhile, still trapped (and seemingly unbeknown to emergency services) Rana desperately tries to keep in phone contact with Kate. Losing signal, Rana literally prays for mercy.  Heading back to the factory in a taxi, Kate, Jenny, and Johnny alert emergency services to Rana's whereabouts.

Inside the factory, Rana is located by the rescue team, but before the firemen can reach her, Underworld collapses to the ground with Rana still inside! The residents recoil in horror as a helpless Kate can do nothing but observe the factory imploding.

Is this the end of Underworld?

Is this the end of Kate and Rana?

Join me back here in a bit for the review of the 8.30pm episode.
