Please note this week’s update only covers Monday and Wednesday episodes so far. 

Emma’s dad dies in hospital and on his deathbed he tells her: “I’ve always loved you as if you were my own.”  What does he mean? Too late, he’s dead. Emma rings her mum in Australia and Audrey’s astounded to discover that Emma’s mum is ex-Corrie hairdresser Fiona Middleton. Audrey does the sums, puts two adults, nine months and one baby together and realises that Fiona’s real dad is only Steve flaming McDonald. Audrey tells Liz and swears her to secrecy, which Liz ignores and tells Steve who ends up in a right state.

Gary Windass, what a man. Ex-soldier, father, furniture emporium manager and now, saviour of the knicker factory on Coronation Street. He draws up plans to rebuild the place and brings in Edison Bailey to do the work. Seb even gets a job from Edison and a handshake from Gary. What a guy. If only he hadn’t inadvertently murdered Rana, he’d be great.

Dev returns from India this week with problems on his mind. First off is his daughter Asha who’s behaving strangely towards everyone, secretive too. Then Dev finds out that Evelyn’s been running a betting scam in his shop while he’s been away. He’s not best pleased. He sacks Evelyn but then has to ask her to return when he discovers that his profits have shot up with Evelyn in charge of the shop.

Robert buys an engagement ring for Michelle but ends up with it on Vicky’s finger. He also gets punched from Jed, which is just as well as I’ve been itching to punch him myself. He’s the dullest man in soap. In all the years Robert’s been on Coronation Street the most interesting thing he’s even done was change the colour of his hair.

Yasmeen tells Cathy she feels Geoff is suffocating her a little. So Cathy suggests that Yasmeen have a night off from Geoff and partner Brian in a game of bridge that Ken’s organised in the Rovers. However, as soon as Geoff finds out that Yasmeen’s doing this, he insists on partnering Yasmeen himself.

And that’s just about that for (most of) this week.

Gemma, Chesney and Joseph are all set to go on holiday but Chesney’s car won’t start. Abi’s the one to diagnose and fix the fault while Kev reckons it’ll need a new starter thing, or something mechanical, what do I know? I don’t drive. Anyway, having proved that Abi’s right and Kev’s wrong, Abi wonders if she can get her job back at the garage but Kev says no. He does, though, offer her the chance of a job interview with a mate’s garage.  When she returns from the interview upset that she didn't get the job because she doesn't have the right qualifications, Sally takes it on herself to ask Brian if he'll give English GCSE tuition to Abi.

But back to Gemma and Chesney’s holiday. It’s the holiday from hell in a caravan that’s been used as a cannabis farm. It’s raining, it’s wet, it’s miserable and Gemma and Chesney are fed up with each other.  Gemma forgets to pack the raincoats and of course it pours non-stop. And then it got a bit silly with Corrie pushing Gemma down our throats (and I LOVE Gemma but it was even too much for me) in a daft storyline involving her getting carted off in the wrong caravan after getting drunk in a pub. What this all leads to is that Chesney has doubts about his future with Gemma.

Last week Carla jumped out of the window at the medical centre and hasn’t been seen since. Peter’s at his wits end looking for her and calls on the Connors to tell them what’s happened. You’d think, after Aidan’s mental health problems resulting in his suicide, that the Connors might be taking Carla’s breakdown a little more seriously. It’s up to Peter to convince them how paranoid Carla has become and that her disappearance isn’t down to Carla going on a red wine bender in the pub.

As the investigation into the Underworld roof collapse continues, Wayne leaves his health and safety report in Roy’s Rolls by accident. Imran finds it and has it in his hands just as Wayne returns to the café to collect it. Wayne assumes Imran is up to something with the report, and when Wayne’s car is broken into later and his report stolen, he puts the blame on Imran. But is it Imran who’s guilty of stealing the report? Nick seems awfully shifty this week and confesses to the cops (sort of) about the money he nicked from his gran, in case they think it suspicious that Underworld accounts show a large amount of money being paid in. But has Nick done himself more harm than good by telling a half-truth to the cops and piquing their interest in him as a possible suspect?

Meanwhile, Gary is drawn deeper into the shady world of Rick Neelan’s loan sharking. But he’s about to find out how evil Rick can be when Gary tells him that he’s not going to work for him anymore. Rick beats him up, slamming his face into the Tommy Orpington calendar on his office wall. Rick’s right-hand man, Sharon, threatens Gary too, after they visit one of Rick’s clients who owes him money and it turns out to be Vicky, Tyler’s mum. Gary refuses to demand the cash and lets Vicky flee with her belongings. Gary’s got more on his plate as Sarah has seen him heading to work in the builders’ yard dressed in a suit and tie as he goes to work for Rick instead. She jumps in her car and follows Gary. Now this, I’m finding hard to swallow. We’re to assume Sarah’s learned to drive and has bought a car even though she’s never had a lesson in her life and is so skint she’s sleeping on her mother’s parlour floor. But anyhoo, Gary is forced to sign over the builder’s yard materials, tools, office equipment and even the kettle to Rick. Is it even Gary’s to sign over, I wonder? Doesn’t Jason still own the place?

Over at the cab office, Steve, Tim and Dev are having a competition to see who can get lower their blood pressure the most. Dev takes to meditation and deep breathing while Steve and Tim wind him up something rotten to get his blood pressure up sky high. Tim, however, has more on his mind than heart problems when Sally changes his shower gel from the one that gives him a “tingly feeling down there”.

Finally this week, to end on a rather crude note, there’s dog poo wars when Ken and Beth go head to head in poo patrol. Not exactly what you want at the end of a working week.

Read Coronation Street Weekly Updates from 1995 to 2017

Missed a Coronation Street episode and want to catch up? Missed a few episodes? A week, a month, a year? Then we have the perfect solution for you. Oh yes!

One of the reasons that I started this Coronation Street Blog back in December 2007 was as somewhere to put my Coronation Street weekly updates.  I've been writing them since 1995, week in, week out. It's my little bit of creative writing, once a week, combining my love of writing with my love of our favourite soap.

And now all of the Corrie weekly updates since 1995 are stored in one handy page at Corrie.net

Some weeks are missing, or covered by other writers, when I'm away on holiday. And there's a huge gap in 2007 when I was forced, due to an, er, conflicting Corrie commitment (that's all I'm going to say!) to give up the weekly updates for a while.

So indulge in some nostalgia and wallow in words from Weatherfield, back through the 90s and the noughties.

Corrie weekly update – Tequila, babies and men behaving badly

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned in Coronation Street and Michelle is that woman this week. She demands a divorce from Steve and 50% of what he owns, including the pub.  Liz tells Steve that she’ll sell her share too and they decide to put the Rovers up for sale.

It’s Rita’s (85th… sssh) birthday this week but no-one remembers, not Norris, or Gemma or Jenny.  Norris finally realises the significance of the date and treats Rita to a drink in the Rovers just as Michelle goes into meltdown. Liz and Steve are locked out of their own pub as Michelle gives free drinks to those inside in a lock-in.  Making the most of Michelle’s marital mess Rita has champagne for her birthday.

Robert’s predatory nature surfaced again this week and I’m not liking it one little bit. Realising Michelle’s on her own in Maria’s flat, he pops round with a board game and a bottle of booze.  If the booze had been white wine, I might have thought he was offering the hand of friendship and a shoulder to cry on. If it had been red wine, I might have thought he was after a bit of snogging on the sofa with Mrs McD. But the bottle of booze was tequila and the board game was Scrabble so I think Robert had more on his mind that getting a triple word score.  A heart-breaking scene ended this week’s episodes when Michelle saw  Steve bent over Oliver’s pram, giving his baby a kiss in front of Leanne. “I’ll get that bitch for this,” hissed Michelle.

Meanwhile, Steve tells Leanne he wants to be part of Oliver’s life, after Michelle ups and leaves him. Leanne isn’t happy about this and asks Peter to have a word with Steve, which he tries to do and fails.  Nick’s not best pleased that Steve’s worming his way into their lives but it’s what Steve wants and as Steve’s the dad, that’s what Steve will get. However, I’m not convinced that Steve is actually the baby’s dad and I think it might be Peter’s.  Cast your minds back to June last year, and with the episode review on Corriepedia, Leanne and Simon went to Portsmouth to stay with Peter.  Just saying.

Mary reveals this week she once worked as a blacksmith. Is there anything this funny little woman hasn’t done? She flirts with Adam Barlow in the florists this week when he comes in to help Tracy.  Adam’s got business on his mind when he reads in the paper about a local drug dealer – he’s still got Rosie’s cocaine to sell, you’ll recall.

Speaking of Rosie, she was whistled at this week by a builder on the building site. Yes, it appears that builders have moved in at the site of the old Nuttall’s brewery and they’re renovating it to become…  a new brewery! This has come out of nowhere but clearly indicates a new set for when Corrie goes to six episodes per week.  I’m not complaining though, as Gary Windass is working on the building site. Anyway, Sally’s not happy that the builder has been whistling and harassing Rosie.  Sally stages a protest with a loudspeaker, shouting down sexism in the Street. Supported by Rita – who chains herself to the building site in protest – along with Erica, Rana, Yasmeen and Brian, Sally creates an obstruction to the building site in protest at the builder’s remarks.  Sally feels she needs to make a stand to help Rosie as she feels she’s let her daughter down after Rosie tells her that modelling life in London wasn’t all that. Rosie reveals to her mum that her career had soured and she had no work, no boyfriend, no home - and she got sacked too.

Over at Roy’s Rolls, Gail loses her purse and blames Shona for stealing. The purse turns up later at Gail’s house but she doesn’t apologise to Shona. She does, however, don her pinny in the café and help Shona serve. I like to see Gail working in the café, it was a throwback to the days when she used to work there with Alma and I’d like to see more.

Sinead finds out she’s pregnant this week. She tells aunty Beth it can’t be Chesney’s kid as they haven’t had you-know-what since before Christmas. Daniel finds the pregnancy test in the flat and he and Sinead sit down to write a list of pros and cons about having a baby. There are lots of cons on their list but only one pro “Cos it might be nice?” warbles soppy Sinead. Ken’s not happy about Daniel’s developing relationship with the ‘intellectually inferior’ Sinead so heaven only knows what he’ll say when he finds out she’s up the duff with a Barlow baby.

And finally this week, Bethany gets a contraceptive implant. It’s clear evil Nathan’s grooming plan is coming on as he wants, with Mel’s help. But what he hasn’t reckoned on is Bethany’s mum Sarah nicking her daughter’s phone, taking Nathan’s number and giving him a ring to invite him round for tea.

And that’s just about that for this week.
