Episode Review Friday 29 May 2026

We open with Todd visiting Summer in jail (or vice versa possibly as it looks like the same jail where they hold the male prisoners).  Todd admits he wish he could change places with her.  Summer wants to know why she is in there and I can only think that she is thought to have committed a serious crime and failed to ensure a cast iron alibi and did not tell the truth when originally asked about it.  Summer thought Theo was going to kill her but she did not kill him.  She reveals to Todd that Tyrone is a sort of alibi but he is refusing to confirm her story.  Adam, the worst solicitor in the world, advises Summer to be aware that it will be a life sentence so a plea bargain for manslaughter would mean she is out in a few years.  {Adam - a killer needs means, motive and opportunity - there is no indication of the means by which Theo died nor therefore how anyone did it - that ought to be enough for her to be released on bail}.

Along at the garage Ty is telling someone how messed up his head is over Summer being in prison.  It seems that the mystery phone calls have been to Ronnie whom we know rescued Carl from being under the car.  Ty wants to make it right but he cannot conceive a reason for not being at the wedding which would also mean that he did not commit the car dropping exercise.  They agree to meet in the Rovers later to discuss it (hardly private).  Fiz gets out of breath after a short trot across the cobbles - is she ailing for something?

Danielle is now Ryan's number one suspect so based on that hunch DS Swain-Connor hauls the poor girl in for questioning.  Danielle later tells her alibi to Todd in the Rovers that she was visiting a friend from the church so cannot possibly have offed Theo and she also makes it clear that the children should get the life assurance monies which Todd says was what he was intending to arrange.

Idris is obviously making a good impression with Leanne who takes to check with Alya that given her previous involvement with Kai.  Alya warns her that Idris does not have a good record in relationships but then (apart from Nick) has Leanne ever been keen on anything but bad boys and she admits her relationship record is hardly ideal.  Leanne tells Alya that she can look after herself.  Outside on his way to his meeting Idris runs across Tracy outside the flower shop and inevitably they chat each other up so it looks like handbags at dawn between R'Leanne and R'Tracy in the next few weeks.  Later in the background we see Leanne and Idris getting very touchy feely.so we can guess where that is going (to the flat above the cab office).

Daniel thinks his hell is over as Truthteller has gone quiet.  He decides to celebrate.  Jodie reckons they got a pang of conscience (which means she admits she did).  A celebration is called for so Ken, Alya, Adam, Bertie, Tracy, Jodie and Daniel assemble in the Bistro.  Ken orders one bottle of the cremant d'Alsace (a sparkling wine from the Alsace), which will mean a small glass each.  Even Tracy knows it is NOT champagne.  Joy is short lived however as another troll has started on Daniel.  The new troll also reflects that Bertie has not been taken from Daniel so it is likely to be someone who has seen them all together.  (Could it be Bertie?).

Ronnie and Ty end up discussing Ty's head out the back of the Rovers and guess who is listening - Carl - who can probably work out that Ty did the dirty and that Ronnie covered up for him.  When they all get back in the Rovers Todd starts questioning Ty on why he is not telling the police the truth that he saw Summer and Theo still alive.  Todd explains what has happened to Carl.  Even Carl thinks it is very dodgy.  Carl wants to know what Ty was doing that evening.  Ty almost gives the game away by asking Carl what he was doing that evening and then we are helpfully shown events in very dark flashback, Carl under the car "fixing it", Ty removing the jack and then as leaves finding Ronnie arriving outside and that Carl needs help.  Ty sees Summer picking up her phone and Theo looking out of the flat above.  Ty returns home - even Fiz thinks he is close to a nervous breakdown.  Fiz is sure Summer will be alright.  Ty is not so sure.

Does it matter who killed Theo?  No, so why are we being forced to watch the police make numerous mistakes, incarcerating Summer for the whole of Summer and constantly having to watch flashbacks filmed in the dark so it is impossible to actually see what is on the screen?  My apologies for my discontent but having been away for three weeks I had hoped that we might be dealing with the gentle lives of people living in the back streets of Walford without crime, hospitals, and frankly dodgy characters.  The good news is that due to a need to visit Menorca and Yorkshire I will not be here for the next two weeks either and then hopefully it will be time to get ready for the Rovers annual Christmas panto.

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 19 September 2025

Good evening.  I think we will start with the good news from the Kate Oates Memorial Hospital.  After many visits and much bedside discussion between Evelyn, Cassie, Fiz (all strong Northern women) and Tyrone over who will be doing what when Tyrone is discharged plus a reminder that Hope will be 15 at the end of the year there was a moment when Ty realised that he could feel something on his right leg when Fiz patted it.  The doctor confirmed that feeling was returning - but so far there is nothing for the left leg - but the news is positive.  Evelyn seems very concerned about the pressures on the family and yet at the age of 79 still seems more sprightly than I am.  She does not seem that concerned about that wonderful opportunity at University just at the moment either.  Is she changing tack?  Plus the hospital machine coffee and tea all taste like oxtail soup - so the machine has not improved.

In other parts of the Street things are not going so well.  Todd and Theo have moved into the flat above the shop.  Billy, George and Brian all help with the unpacking and later Mary and Christina join in drinking the house warming presents.  Theo twice catches Billy and Todd in a clinch and gets visibly more distressed each time.  Eventually the party participants leave and Theo's good humour facade vanishes even quicker as he tears a strip off Todd as everything is in the wrong place; he wanted just the two of them to enjoy the moving in and to do it all together.  He throws a real strop and tells Todd to sleep in the spare room which the team had decorated earlier.  Now I am probably not alone in once not entirely liking Todd (sorry) {and obviously his stint as Gavin Moss was truly repulsive as all Archers listeners will know} but no-one deserves the treatment Theo is handing out to his partner and the sooner Todd runs for the hills the better.

Tracy continues to pursue Carl and Abi for the £10k which needless to say they do not have.  Somehow Carl has £500 which he tells Tracy to take it and bring an end to it.  She feels that telling Kevin will somehow feel more satisfying.  Carl is soon on to making her rethink her priorities and directs Dylan to give the florists (where the power has failed) to give the place a good going over and he managed to smash up the displays, pots etc.  Dylan tells Carl that they are now quits and he refuses to take £20 from Carl for his actions.  Carl reckons that Tracy has  not got the message so pops in on Ken when everyone is out and buys him a few drinks and then phones Tracy to tell her how well he is getting on with Ken.  Tracy returns home and it may be that Carl is getting his message delivered at last.

In what may have been a meaningless moment (who knows sometimes) Debbie and Carl make contact with a singer who may or may not be willing to assist with the choir.  Debbie can see quite a battle coming between the dementia choirs.  Time will tell.

Sadly Roy, I say Roy, has no idea of the existence of Foghorn Leghorn, I say, Foghorn Leghorn when Brian uses his way of speaking, Roy thinks it was Fred Elliott, I say Fred Elliott and then realises that both Brian and Evelyn are too recent to remember Fred as landlord.  Roy has no idea of the animated character as his mother did not approve of cartoons which had a corrupting influence and to ensure compliance they did not have a television.

And finally Roy visits Carla to see if she has time to walk the dog and immediately recognises Becky from the photograph in the room.  Carla knows that she lied to him.  Becky keeps hanging around like a bad smell.  We keep being told that her emergence is safe because the person who wanted her dead was murdered.  However usually crime gang bosses have underlings who may have been around when Becky was undercover and who are now in  charge of an OCG (in Line of Duty speak).  So is she sure that no-one else wants her dead (well apart from me?).  Meanwhile Lisa expects the wedding to Carla to go ahead - but if Becky is not dead does she need a divorce and how did Logan know that she was Tia Wardley?  Poor Roy knows the truth and does not want to talk about it, the lies and deceit.  I only hope that this is not a mirror of a real story in this country.

You have probably gathered that tonight was a curate's egg.  Sadly the impression that we have three villainous stories running at the same time (Carl, Theo and the Becky related story where I am not sure who is the villain) means that the entire Street is off balance.  I apologise if this is a little too obvious in my assessment tonight - but I want stories of working class people in the back streets of Salford living their lives; not crime, not villainy, not abuse; not conflict with constant raised voices but more strong women keeping their partners on the straight and narrow.  Can I ask those responsible to ask themselves what Tony Warren might think please?

Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 24 January 2025

Welcome.  The episode commenced with a very hungover Leanne waking up to find Ryan sharing her bed and it seems she has little recall of recent events.  He would like a nice big fry up - but Leanne suddenly realises that she should be in court this morning and is already late.  Her day gets worse when Debbie drives through a carefully located puddle soaking Leanne as retribution for her flirting with Ronnie - so she will appear quite woebegone in court.  Added to which even though she knows the boss of StreetCars he cannot provide a cab to get her to court.  Toyah offers to drive and despite herself Leanne is forced to accept.  Things improve slightly in court as Leanne is awarded community service and we look forward to her getting a role in the next series of "The Outlaws".  After toasting Nick and Toyah's passports and nearly causing a fire, just about everyone on the Street queues up to tell Leanne how self destructive she is being, how she cannot keep raiding the Bistro profits and that she needs to change.  She takes a decision to sell her share of the Bistro to Nick today and later we see documents being signed and she surrenders her keys to the flat.  It is unclear if she is paid any money but perhaps she would like to buy a share of the Rovers?  She and Ryan acknowledge it was a one off, especially after Tracy reminds Leanne she has been there (in 2012 for those with short memories and of course he was then wearing a different head).

The Platt household is far from happy - Lily is attempting the stroppy teenager routine even though she is only 11 and is apparently unaware of "stranger danger" as that only applies to little children.  David tells her she needs to be more "street smart" - but gets nowhere.  We later learn that "David the dog" (Dthed) needs to be more street smart as he has reportedly been hit by a car and is at the vet's for a scan.  Dthed apparently managed to escape from the garden - no-one knows how - and it may have been  a simple accident until later on David receives a text message from an unknown number but assumed to be Harvey that he (David the human) will be next.  [Following the response to the attack on Piper on Emmerdale it was notable that the incident was entirely off screen - apparently soap viewers are quite happy with humans getting murdered and the like but harm a single hair of a pooch on screen and the complaints go through the roof.  For those who are worried Piper is safe and well].  Of course David the human is worried about the vet bills and starts taking additional steps to secure the house and ensuring all is safe for his family. Dthed has to have an operation and will be on pain killers and will be home tomorrow to Lily's relief.

Bethany is back at Sarah's.  She has arranged to collect her stuff from Daniel's flat.  Bethany says that Audrey is right - the female family members have a screw loose over men.  Bethany has also decided that she is going to London and taking the job.  Over at Number 1 Ken is telling Daniel how disappointed he is and also worrying that Cassie has not arrived.  Daniel reports on the secret that Bertie is keeping and that Cassie is untrustworthy.  Given there have been multiple warnings Ken takes it seriously and later confronts Cassie.  Butter wouldn't melt with that one as she spins the most confected lie heard in years.  Ken swallows it and offers to pay for private consultations for her to help her addiction.

In hospital Lauren is a free woman and Frankie is responding well to the antibiotics and should soon be allowed home - finally they can start their new life.  Except that Joel's mother Anthea drops in.  She has not come to create trouble but to apologise for Gus, to say that they are dropping the custody case and that she feels guilty for what they did.  She says goodbye to Frankie and tells him to be good for his mum.  Max later says he would like Lauren and Frankie to be a real family together and get their own place and after some discussion they tell each other that they love each other.

Jenny and Daisy have a long chat with the former pointing out that Daisy only has herself to blame for being this week's topic of conversation over her activities.    As Bethany moves out Daisy comes by and Sarah has a few words to say.  However Daisy recalls that Sarah was in a similar situation between Adam and Damon not so long ago in the Bistro in 2023.  Honours just about even.  Later Bethany sits down with Daisy in the Rovers back room for a talk.  Bethany apologises for Sarah and admits Daisy being around continually drove her mad.  Daisy confirms Daniel's story that it was a mistaken one-off, but that she (Daisy) will always love Daniel and she apologises for upsetting Bethany in public, but Bethany was always chosen over her by Daniel as he loves her.  Bethany makes one observation - she does not reckon that either Daniel or Kit is fit or ready to be a parent to Daisy's baby and perhaps Daisy should consider being a single mother like Sarah.  Daisy later receives the DNA results but decides to delete the email unread, she has decided that neither individual is good enough to be the father to her baby.

Contrary to my earlier impressions whilst Tracy is back so is Tommy O and they are getting a swanky posh apartment in Cheshire - so presumably the coaching job in Spain has come to an end.

And on a slightly sad note this episode would typically have been filmed about 6 weeks ago - around the same time that Carol Royle's husband died in a freak accident.  It must be a huge loss for her and our sympathies go to her at this somewhat late stage.  I hope her appearance tonight was recorded before that event.
