Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 16th February

BETSY - CORONATION STREET - ITV

"Can you start at the beginning so we're all up to speed?" asks the hitherto unseen cop down at the station. But - SPOILER ALERT - we're not starting at the beginning. We're starting at the end, two months hence. Corrie has decided that it's had enough of flashbacks and is having its first flash forward episode, with one wedding and a murder. The potential victims, Megan, Carl, Maggie, Theo and Jodie, are all shown in the first scene.

Theo gives Todd a pound for every mile he's run, like he's doing a sponsored walk in 1987, or something. Never mind who is going to be killed, who do we want to be killed? I'd like to see the end of Theo, purely because I can't bear to see poor Toddicles being so ground down. For my money though I think it will be Maggie who's bumped off, possibly by Megan when Mrs Doyle discovers the truth about Wegan. Reason being that it's possible that Pauline McLynn has other work calling and also she has yet to be punished (in soap law) for the flashback murder of her hubby in 1990.

In the meantime, Will is let out of chokey when Maggie lies to say he was with her on the night of Daniel's attack. Eva is onto her though, knowing Roy drove Maggie to a hotel that night - so can't have been with her grandson.

Carla and Swain fix their wedding date as 23rd April at Chariot Square. This was also my wedding date and I'm pleased to share it with Corrie's premier lesbians (my nephew also shares a birthdate with Ruby Dobbs).

David, Shona and Jodie go out to the hotel as well and Jodie makes various remarks about her sister and David that are pretty much lost on young Mr Platt. Most people are actively trying to get off Platt Chat and she's the only one trying to get on. I think she's onto a loser here though - David has played away before, but only when he's going through some kind of emotional turmoil: he's not got a roving eye like Peter Barlow. I can't see that sometime psycho David and grumpy Lily are that good of a catch anyway and Jodie doesn't even know she has a step-half-nephew, Max. It'd be nice if he were mentioned now and again wouldn't it? Like, "we've not been able to visit Max in prison due to spending a lot of time in the hospital with baby Harper", or "Max rang, he sends his love to Harper and looks forward to meeting her in 3-5 years time when he returns with a new head."
