Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 24 July

Evening Corrie fans, it’s Kelly here with your Friday night review.

It’s the day of Yasmeen’s trial and she is having some kind of weird dream sequence involving multiple Geoff clones imprisoning her in a box. The trial seems to have come around very quickly doesn’t it? How on earth have her legal team had time to gather all their evidence and find relevant witnesses? Oh wait, they haven’t, as Yasmeen’s revelation to Imran about Geoff having another abused ex-partner comes completely out of the blue. I’m not really sure what Yas is paying these guys for? All they seem to have done so far is found Sally and Eileen, who both sort of think that maybe Geoff is ‘a bit off’. It’s hardly a cast-iron defence is it!

Meanwhile at No. 4 Tim is worried about being grilled by Posh Paula and his horrible father is determined that Yasmeen is going to pay. As they leave for court in a taxi, they’re watched by Elaine. Do we think she’s really Tim’s estranged mum, Tessa? I hope so. But mainly because I’d like some mother-in-law scenes between her and Sally.

It all comes to nothing though, as before she’s even left prison, Yasmeen collapses and is rushed to hospital with a heart attack. This makes for a very weird scene where instead of helping her, Imran just points at her from a 2m distance. And this my friends, is how we know that *dramatic music* coronavirus has finally arrived on the Street.

Once it’s out there every single character mentions it. There’s social distancing in the Kabin, disinfecting in the Rovers, hand sanitiser everywhere and Nina talking about goats taking over a deserted Llandudno. Which to be fair was a very funny story, even if it did happen back in March.

In other news, Sarah walks into Adam’s office to find Laura in there flirting outrageously with her husband. Laura is momentarily shocked to find out he’s married before telling him to dump Sarah and give her a call. She’s classy. When Adam tells Sarah that Laura is Rick’s wife and that he suspects Gary of murder, his furious wife tells him that his obsession with Gary is killing them.

Meanwhile the object of his obsession is having terrible day. In the Kabin, Gary finds Brian practising with a metal detector which he plans to take to Beacon Woods, aka Rick’s shallow grave, where a horde of Roman coins have just been discovered. Gary persuades him not to go but he’s later talked back into it by Bernie who says she saw Gary putting a shovel in his boot and that he’s after the treasure for himself. What follows is an odd post-Covid scene where, in lieu of any scenes actually being filmed, Brian and Bernie spend five minutes explaining that they were in the woods detectoring when Gary threatened and chased them. To prove the point the man himself then arrives and smashes Brian’s metal detector (from a safe distance). As the row abates, Bernie returns to her house and takes a watch out of her pocket with the inscription ‘To Rick from Laura’. It looks like the game may be up for the Ginger Gangster.

And that’s all for this week. I hope the multiple Geoff’s don’t give you nightmares. Sleep well Corrie fans…or if you need talking down catch me on twitter @mskelstar

Please, please make this the end of Gary! Don't drag it out any further! It's already the dullest plot going, don't subject us to more months of Gary swanning around with his upturned collar trying to act like a tough guy... I can't believe this is the main storyline, it's awful.
Worst part is I don't think the show has any intention of getting rid of Gary so I don't think he'll ever be brought to justice for his numerous crimes.
