This time it's Oliver Farnworth, who plays Andy Carver on Corrie, who is leaving for a while.
Oliver will join Les Dennis on stage in Alan Bleasdale’s Down the Dock Road at Liverpool’s Royal Court Theatre in March.

Are you sure about that Joseph Billington? I though before the Helicopter crash I though she was doing well with Emmerdale, but now it's like she's trying to fit 10 years worth of stories into six months or like she can't go without doing all the story lines she wants. Seriously she needs to let it go!
The leavers are going off to do a stint in theatre. Some of the younger cast members will hopefully benefit greatly from proper direction and story lines. It should help their performance when they return. Guessing that Andy's departure involves helping Michael with whatever causes him to leave the Street.
They haven't been using Andy much anyway. I doubt they'll even give him an "out" storyline or reason.
@Anon10:21 I don't really watch Emmerdale but what I can gather she has done a tremendous job with bringing in new characters. Ratings have increased as well. If so many actors are "taking a break" at once, we need a change of producer. So many cast members are complaining about poor stories and continuity faults. Also I agree with Tvor above. Andy won't even probably be given an exit storyline.
this is not good news - I really, really loved Andy & Steph together, but on the other hand I can understand his reasons for leaving, he just has nothing to do - he's only in most episodes in a minor role, so good luck to him. I just can't help wonder when will all these departures stop. Does not bode well for the street.

@ Joseph Billington That's a fair point. Like I say I was pleased when it was announced and she has/had done a great job with Emmerdale, but now it's like every character lurches from one disaster to another. Which is I suppose typical in soap land to some extent but, in the last six months ish they've done: two/possibly three affairs (with long term couples), two who's the daddy plots, one caner plot, one terminal illness, one shooting, one stabbing, a ptsd plot, one attempted murder and that's just what I remember oh and a kidnapping I think! It's exhausting.

I too like Andy and Steph and have been pleased to see an attempt to lighten his character; the mucking about with Zeedan in the Bistro kitchen also carried promise of a budding friendship, which both characters need. It's not necessarily a reflection on the show to want to do some theatre. I suspect it's not so much a mass exodus born of dissatisfaction, but rather that once they'd agreed to David Nielson or Les Dennis taking a sabbatical, they couldn't really refuse the same to other cast members. Oliver Farnworth already has an impressive list of theatre credits and casting him alongside Les Dennis makes box-office sense because of their Corrie association. Hope when he comes back they'll have thought of something decent for him to do. I still want to know where he and Michael now stand, but let's also have some fun stuff with Steph!
Love Andy & Steph...hope when he rtns. to the Cobbles they are still together and given a good storyline!! Really enjoy Oliver....great actor!
I like the actor as well, and hope that he returns to better storylines. Or heck, A storyline...
Agree with Anon @ 15.29. I was a loyal Emmerdale watcher, but after that "Helicopter" stunt and the carnage that followed I started questioning what on earth the Emmerdale producer was doing?
Then after many of my favs departed the canvas all in quick succession (after enjoying their time on the show for many years, mostly deaths for their write outs) I turned my back on the show.
The last straw was when one of the vets (another fav) was basically put into a terminal illness storyline after being back-burned for 2+ years in an obvious and horribly cynical attempt to do an Emmerdale Roy and Hayley. Not going anywhere near that story line. Wrong on so many levels.
Be careful what you wish for.
EastEnders style is what this producer does - and that's not best for Corrie, long term. Its pure plot based stories.
I worry we may loose some of our beloved vets under this lady's tenure.

Now I'm very worried for Corrie's future Rachal. If it becomes more like EE I'll switch off. I hated last night's second episode as there was too much confrontation - good storys on their own but all in one episode was too EastEndery for me.
With so many characters playing 3rd fiddle beneath Platts and a clique of producer faves, it's hardly a surprise so many actors are feeling frustrated.
