The return of the handsome man to Coronation Street

Now then, I'm a woman. I'm straight. I like watching telly and I love Coronation Street. I also like it when Coronation Street casts a man with a certain something that shines through the screen and I can think "Ooh, he's nice to watch".

Daniel Brocklebank, who's playing Billy the vicar, has that certain something, and it's a certain something that's not been seen on Corrie for a very long time. Yes, it's finally happened, it's the return of the handsome man to Coronation Street.

I'm not one of those women who fell for the charms of so-called Corrie heart-throbs Liam Connor, Tony Gordon and Doctor Carter. All of these were too smooth, too bland for my liking.

As were Rob Donovan and Ryan Connor, cast as muscle-pumped and ripped. Fit fellas are just not my type. Far too sweaty and vain.

Much more cuddly and warm, to my mind, was Dennis Stringer. He was fought over by Eileen and Janice, so you can see what age-range I'm coming from (!) and where my tastes lie.

Charlie Whelan was another (vest notwithstanding).  Again, he was fought over by Bet and Tanya "evil cow" Pooley. But he caused a bit of a stir while he was on the Street.

As did Cairan McCarthy

And Peter Barlow too.

It's been a very long time since we had a proper hunk on Corrie. But with Daniel Brocklebank now on Corrie, Billy the vicar will be keeping viewers - male, female, gay, straight - entertained for some time to come.

There's something else about Billy. He appears very comfortable in his own skin. Some of your examples, FN, were equally charismatic, like Peter Barlow, but they were flawed. Many were written as love cheats because that was their exit story. Daniel Brocklebank has a lot of film, tv, theatre credits so I wonder if he will stay long term. If and when he leaves, I hopes it's work related rather than anything else. I love the idea of a male character with so much charm, self-confidence and sense of purpose that he really doesn't need to prove anything. Hopefully, he'll see straight through Todd and send him packing if he tries any funny business.

Am with you all the way, with all of these men! I do admit, though, that I found Tony Gordon attractive and, in spite of him being a vile, controlling a-hole, Bill Ward as Charlie Stubbs.

As a gay male viewer, it's Oliver Farnworth as Gavin/Andy who gets my vote as Corrie's most handsome man of the moment. And before him, it was another Oliver (Mellor) as the sadly under-used Dr Carter...

Billy definitely has that special something. Of course it helps that I have a clergy fetish... ;)

Poor Billy was killed in an episode of Midsommer Murders last week. Billy seems a very nice guy and could be a good character if he is not dragged down by the pointless and irritating Sean.

I also find Billy very attractive. He seems like a very nice guy hope they keep him around for a while. I think he'll be good for Sean. I am the mother of a gay son and would love it if he met someone as lovely as Billy! I also find Andy and Callum sexy.

I don't find any chemistry between Sean and Billy. Sean is acting like a 12 year old with their first crush. Can he not grow up just a tad?

Oh yes, I think Ga'Andy is lovely as well

FN.....agree wholeheartedly about Dennis Stringer! Perfect man for Eileen.....maybe he has a twin brother who could arrive in Weatherfield with a message just recently found that Eileen was the love of his life...not Janice......and ta- da...sort of have Dennis back....:0

I think Lloyd is lovely. He's got a real cuddliness. When is he coming back?
