Craig Charles returns to Coronation Street tonight as cabbie Lloyd Mullaney. And there's a good interview on the official Coronation Street website at itv.com/corrie with Craig who says: "It feels brilliant to be back. I've missed the cab office, I've even missed the chair!"
Craig says that Lloyd's return sees him working for a rival cab firm when he meets up with Steve who offers him his old job back at Streetcars. He's actually offering Lloyd just a driving job when Lloyd was hoping for partnership again. There's some good scenes between Steve and Lloyd coming up when Lloyd goes into competition with Streetcars against Steve when he starts up an all-female cab company called Fare Ladies. I wonder if he'll try to poach Fat Brenda?
But then Tracy Barlow wants to start working for Fare Ladies and Lloyd thinks it's because she's on his side in his war against Steve, but he couldn't be further from the truth. Tracy starts sabotaging Fare Ladies to get into Steve's good books. When Lloyd finds out he chases Steve to Amy's school sports day and ends up running after Steve around the field. Should be good fun to watch.

Doesn't the female cab company and sabotage sound like a "Carry On" movie which included Amanda Barrie?
Indeed it couldn't be even more closer to Carry on Cabbie if it tried!
Maybe they're giving Tracy's character a (welcome) makeover.
She had two great L.O.Loud lines in the last episode. Deliberately mispronouncing prospective house buyer Simone's name, with a patronising, motherly, "Awww" when Simone corrected her.
- And later the line of the week for me when 'Simone' screeched in horror upon seeing the rat sitting upon Craig with:
"Ugh! What's that?"
Tracey replied to her, without missing a beat or following Simone's gaze to the cause of her distress, replied: "Oh, that's just his mother". Oh to have seen a quick 'cut to' of Beth's face.
Truly brilliant timing etc., Think this actress is greatly under rated. Genuine original Corrie LOL moments.
Much better than going for the remanufactured cheapo done-before rat/food inspector rehashes etc., which rang plastic and false. Saying that, there's nothing in comedy or sitcom that hasn't been done a 1,000 times before - so if it must be done, at least put something extra in to the effort. Even the Carry On gags had whiskers on them then! But that's not the point. It's HOW GOOD you retell 'em that matters.
For instance, that moment of Steve's horror upon seeing the rat in the pub, and instantly running out in shock was awful, simply awful, and broke the suspension of belief required to buy into that scene.
Tracey's scene on the other hand was pure comedy gold.
The look on Simon's face makes him seem creepy in this photo.
