Fans of Eddie Windass can breathe a sigh of relief. Actor Steve Huison, who plays Eddie on Coronation Street, has tweeted that Corrie "are leaving the door open" for Eddie.
His two most recent twitter posts say:
"For those who don't know by now I will be leaving Corrie in about 6 weeks. Anyone know of any jobs going?" and "It was management choice. They're leaving the door open apparently though."
So he's not getting killed off, but we don't yet know how he leaves. It's just a real shame that he is.

Oh, I thought he was leaving of his own accord? What a shame, I've warmed to Eddie, as much as one can with those weedy fags, unkempt hair and grubby bandage!
I'm so glad they are leaving it open. I really like he character and the whole family!
WHAT?!?!?! I also thought he was leaving on his own accord. Damn, what the HELL are the people at Corrie thinking? He's an incredible, very likeable character.
There's something oddly appealing about his dishevelled state. :o)

I must admit, when they first arrived I didn't like any of the Windasses, but now I do.
I honestly can't think why they want rid of Eddie, there seems to be plenty of mileage in him yet.
There are several other pointless characters they could get shot of.
I don't want him to gooooooo.
I always thought Eddie should reopen Diggory's old bakery with his flair for cakes. He could take on Chesney as his apprentice with Gary and Anna working there as well.
I would start it as Eddie should sell the house without Anna knowing (Eddie secretive, cleaning and dressing up comedy) and "surprise" Anna by moving in above the bakery.
It would give more of the comedic scenes to the Windass family and I could imagine Eddie giving Chesney all the 2 am starts and smoking near the kitchen. Eddie could surprise and really kick into gear.
A contrast between the dishevelled Eddie and his beautiful masterpiece-like cakes would have been interesting.
A seriously under-utilised character...
Well, he can't sell the house; he's renting it from Jerry Morton...
I love the idea of him opening a bakery! It's so obvious, why won't they do it?!
Totally agree that the Windasses are gold, despite their awkward start. I'd much rather see more of them than Becky or whoever they're overfocusing on. Whatever happened with that hint that Eddie and Anna weren't actually married? Why bring that up when she has his name and, apparently, his ring?
Really, really poor decision to get rid of Eddie.
Don't the "management" - these here today, gone tomorrow producers, have any vision or interest beyond marking their own territory? Eddie could be a real veteran in time.
How on earth can they bring back TRACY and get rid of Eddie? I'm so upset :(
I wrote to Granada to say that Eddie was popular and any chance they could keep him on. I heard back from a David Nugent to say the decision had been made, but it looks like at least the door has been left open. I wont start a rant on how ridiculously past it characters like Div are kept on and characters like this who have fitted in a treat and have much mileage in them have been told to go.............
Great stuff, FF - who did you write to exactly? If we all write perhaps they might get the message! It seems Steve Huison doesn't want to leave, Corrie fans don't want him to leave, so do the maths! Love the bakery story line, way to go! I can see it now, Corrie, written for the fans, by the fans. Who knows, it might pick up a few awards....
email david.nugent@itv.com. he's just the duty officer for coronation st but people should complain, i dont know where they do their research to when they say a character has "run its course"
I'd love if Cilla came back for a guest spot and recognized Eddie as Chesneys' father
I really like Anna and Eddie as a family unit, and hate to see another one split up...
