Video: Corrie goes Back to the Future for Text Santa

If you missed it last night or want to watch it again, here's the video of Coronation Street going Back to the Future for ITV Text Santa.

There were some funny performances from Sally as Annie Walker, Tim as Albert Tatlock and Anna as Elsie Tanner.  But the biggest laugh in our house went to Les Dennis doing his Mavis "I don't really know" Wilton.

Have a look at the video below:

The official ITV Coronation Street have a behind-the-scenes video from last night's Text Santa Corrie sketch and you can view details here.

Pics: Sally and Tim as Annie and Albert for Text Santa

Pictures have been released showing some of the Coronation Street cast as classic characters.  It's all in aid of a sketch that will run as part of ITV's Text Santa on Friday 18 December.

Sally Dynevor (Sally Metcalfe) is done up as Annie Walker.  Joe Duttine (Tim Metcalfe) is Uncle Albert Tatlock.  And Debbie Rush (Anna Windass) is dolled up as Elsie Tanner.

And Les Dennis will do his Mavis "I don't really know" Riley!

Sir Richard Branson will also join in the Coronation Street sketch. Read more on that here.

It's not the first time that Corrie cast members have dressed up as blasts from the show's past. Have a look here for some more amazing photos.

Corrie cast blasts from the past

This Friday night, December 18th 2015 is ITV's Text Santa.  It's a great thing they do for charity every Christmas and they raise loads of cash for good causes.

As part of Friday night's show, there'll be a Coronation Street sketch called Back to The Future.  Some of the current Corrie cast get dressed up as Corrie icons from the past. As yet, we don't know who's getting dressed up as who but hopefully there'll be pics online after the event and it might be on YouTube too.  Sir Richard Branson is even turning up!

The idea of current cast members dressing up as Corrie icons of old isn't a new idea, it's been done before a few times. I always enjoy these sorts of things, so here's some pictures of when cast members dressed up as Corrie icons to whet our appetite for Friday night's Text Santa!

From the ill-fated Coronation Street musical 'Street of Dreams', Kym Marsh was made up as Elsie Tanner.

For Coronation Street's 50th anniversary Craig Gazey (Graeme Proctor) and Michelle Keegan (Tina McIntyre) were made up as Stan and Hilda Ogden.

And as Jack and Vera Duckworth...

And as Curly and Raquel Watts.

Also from the ill-fated Coronation Street musical, here's Rachel Leskovac (Natalie Blakeman) as Bet Lynch singing He's My Man.

Can you think of any more I might have missed?

Sir Richard Branson joins Coronation Street for Text Santa

Sir Richard Branson is joining Corrie for ITV's Text Santa. The Virgin boss is making a special one-off appearance as part of a Coronation Street Back To The Future-themed sketch for Text Santa Christmas Jumper Day.

It'll be aired on Friday 18 December.

The sketch sees Sir Richard arriving on the street in his DeLorean and calling on locals Tyrone and Kirk to help fix the flashy car.

However, when the boys ignore his strict instructions not to touch anything, they are transported back to Coronation Street Christmases of the past and the future.

ITV Text Santa tell us that we are in for a treat as the pair encounter iconic characters including Annie Walker, Albert Tatlock, Elsie Tanner and Mavis Riley - played by current cast members.

Whilst they enjoy their adventures Sir Richard has a few of his own as he encounters current day characters including Dev and Leanne.

Speaking about taking part in the sketch, Sir Richard said: “I was delighted to be a part of Coronation Street’s special sketch for ITV’s Text Santa which will be shown on 18th December at 8pm. I hope everyone will do their bit in a Christmas knit and donate to this fantastic appeal.”

This year the Text Santa appeal is supporting Macmillan Cancer Support, Make-A-Wish UK and Save the Children. 100% of all donations will be split between these three incredible charities.

Video: Coronation Street's Mary Christmas for Text Santa

If you missed the Coronation Street special of Text Santa last night, you can watch it now on the official ITV Coronation Street website.  Or if you'd like to watch it again, it's here.

It sees X Factor judge and Spice Girls singer Mel B join the soap for a special cameo role, playing Santa’s bossy chief operational head of Christmas management services. She organises all of Santa’s appointments, but when his sleigh breaks he’s unable to carry out his important present deliveries – and so takes a rest in Mary’s motor home.

Mary finds him relaxing in a sea of fairy lights inside her van, after following giant snowy footsteps that lead to the door of the motor home, and is initially furious to find an imposter inside.

But when Santa lists all of Mary’s presents on Christmas from over the years – including a Jonathan Ross jumbo jigsaw – she realises that he’s the real deal.

Mel’s character soon enlists Mary’s help to take on Santa’s role around Coronation Street’s Weatherfield, and she’s given the title ‘Mary Christmas’ as she gets ready to fill some very big boots.

Revealed: Why The Pogues' Shane MacGowan will be on Christmas Corrie

A few weeks ago we reported that Shane MacGowan, lead singer with The Pogues, had been spotted filming on the Coronation Street set.

And now we can finally reveal why - it's part of ITV's annual charity Text Santa.

This year, Coronation Street cast members will perform a version of 'Fairytale in Weatherfield' accompanied by Shane MacGowan.

I bet it won't have great lyrics like our version...

So there you have it. While it'll be well worth watching, I'm stil a bit disappointed that Shane's not being brought in to Corrie as Deirdre's new man.

Text Santa raises funds for Age UK, Barnardo's, BeatBullying, British Heart Foundation, CLIC Sargeant and Help the Hospices.
