Video: When Cilla Black appeared on Coronation Street

There is some very sad news today with the reports of Cilla Black passing away aged 72.  The BBC have her obituary here.

Paul O'Grady interviewed Cilla in a special programme called The One and Only Cilla Black, to mark her 50 years in show business in 2013. Paul presented a celebration of Cilla's career. She was one of our most popular all-round entertainers and today's sad news has hit hard.

As part of the anniversary show, Cilla made a guest appearance on Coronation Street with Barbara Knox and Malcolm Hebden (Rita and Norris).

Rumours in 2010 that Cilla Black was joining the show as a cast member were quashed.

Reminder: Cilla Black's on Coronation Street tonight - sort of

Cilla Black will star in a special Coronation Street scene tonight when she walks down the cobbles and has a drink in the Rovers Return with Rita and Norris.

 

It's all part of the Cilla Black special The One & Only Cilla Black to mark her 50 years in showbiz. It's on TV tonight (Wednesday 16 October) at 9pm on ITV immediately after the one hour long special of Coronation Street ends.

 

In the scene, Cilla goes into the Rovers and Rita and Norris struggle to place her. They decide that she's someone they know from the 60s, when Rita herself was a singer. Cilla laughed: "I play myself and I walk in the pub and no-one realises it's me."

Cilla Black joins Coronation Street - sort of

ITV are screening a tribute to Cilla Black in which she'll fulfill a lifelong dream to appear in a very special Coronation Street scene with Rita and Norris in the Rovers Return.

The One and Only Cilla Black will air on Wednesday 16 October at 9pm on ITV.  It's hosted by fellow Corrie fan Paul O'Grady.

Cilla's never made any secret about being a life-long fan of Coronation Street.

Rumours in 2010 that Cilla was joining the show were quashed.

Cilla Black to join Coronation Street?

It says here that Cilla Black is joining Coronation Street. Producers have, apparantly, asked her to sign a big money deal to play a long-running role in the soap. But Cilla, 66, who played herself in the show's 40th anniversary special, says she's too tired for that. And she offered to do a one-off cameo instead. "If the role was right, I would do a one off thing."

News just in: A Corrie spokesperson for the show this morning told Digital Spy: "No approach has been made to Cilla Black about appearing in Coronation Street. Cilla is incredibly famous and it would be difficult to see how she could appear in Coronation Street as a different character."

Corrie icon in Girls Aloud Christmas Special

Julie Goodyear, who played Coronation Street icon Bet Lynch, will appear in the Girls Aloud Christmas Special on ITV. Julie will star alongside Cilla Black to play the mothers of two of the band.

A source told The Sunday People: “The girls were delighted to get Cilla and Julie on board. It’s going to be extremely funny.”

Nikki Sanderson, who played Coronation Street crimper Candice Stowe, turns up in Ellis' new video Cilla Black's TV as a young Cilla.
