Coronation Street Episode Review Friday 20 August

Evening Corrie fans, it’s Kelly here with your Friday night review.

It’s the day of Hope’s sentencing and while Fiz stresses, Ty has woken up on the sofa of his excitable new fiancĂ©e Alina (or Polly Pocket as the wonderful Evelyn insists on calling her). At No. 5 Ty tells his nan and ex that he’s engaged, for which he gets nothing but scorn. I’m starting to think the pair of them might only be happy if he commits to life of total celibacy and despair only punctuated by listening to the most depressing Leonard Cohen songs and the occasional self-flagellation with a jump lead.

At the youth court, Hope seems more interested in her phone and still seems to think she’s done nothing wrong. Unbelievably the judge seems to agree, as the Firestarter is given a youth rehabilitation order and therapy sessions, but basically let off and allowed to go and play in her room. As regular readers of my blogs will know, my opinions on badly-behaved children fall slightly to the right of a cruel 19th century workhouse owner, but has anyone actually considered that just maybe there should be some kind of punishment for remorselessly committing arson…again?

In other court news, Imran is exhausted as he tries to defend Kelly on his own. Toyah tries to give him a bit of respite by taking him to the Bistro for lunch but he ends up having a row with part-woman/part-scowl Leanne who seems to be one of the lock ‘em up without charge and throw away the key brigade. Which is pretty hypocritical coming from a woman who once worked a prostitute and burnt down a restaurant to claim the insurance money. Still, Imran is lovely when he’s angry.

Back on the Street, Weatherfield’s answer to Hilary Clinton, Sally is steaming full on into her campaign for resident parking. She gets ignored by Maria and Liam (who seems to be about 23 now) and outright blocked by Alya and Tracy, who claim it would be bad for their businesses. Tracy then stirs it by telling Tim that it would ruin Street Cars, leading the Metcalfe’s to have a row. It’ll take more than that to put off the marvellous Mrs M on a mission!

Elsewhere, Michael tells Uncle Ronnie (when did they start speaking again?) that he’s not sure he wants to be with Grace but just wants to do what’s best for Glory. And Jenny tells Alya that Ryan didn’t cheat on her and they were all manipulated by Dastardly Daisy. When Daisy protests, Jenny gives her a “now then lady” talking to which she obviously learnt from Reet and tells her that if doesn’t want to be disliked she needs to stop doing dislikeable things. Simple but effective.

Back at No.5 Chesney brings back Ruby and tells Fiz that he and Gemma don’t want heinous Hope around their children until she’s had some treatment. When Ty calls around, Fiz basically blames him for everything until he breaks down in tears saying it’s all his fault and he’s wrecked everyone’s life. Well of course, because every child whose parents split up sets fire to stuff right(?!) Seeing him cry, Fiz finally softens and they open the prosecco he’d bought to celebrate his and Alina’s engagement, admit they still care for each other…and kiss!

So now he’s gone from cheating on Fiz with Alina to cheating on Alina with Fiz. This show gets more like Dallas every day! I won’t be at all surprised if he finds Molly in the shower and we find out the whole last 11 years has all been a terrible dream.

And that’s all for this week. Let me know your thoughts in the comments section or find me on twitter @mskelstar.

So, while the rest of the street still stands ludicrously far apart in the pure open air of Weatherfield, Fiz and Tyrone can enjoy the first tactile moment in 18 months! Meant to be though…and worth the wait!

I knew Ty would come to his senses eventually! Yay.

I want them back together too. Alina can pair up with Michael. Grace should stay in the area so Glory has contact with Michael's family but she can be off set. What about her family?

Some cracking episodes this week! Thanks for a great write-up, Kelly! Gosh, did Fiz and Ty isolate for 2 weeks for that kiss? Interesting how many times Covid actually came up in the dialogue.

Look, many of us have been saying how badly therapy is needed on the Street. Now that Hope is going to get some, I have a feeling she's going to fake getting better and grow up to be worse than Todd. How about some therapy before they burn down their second Corrie set?

Go Sally! Just don't call anyone a deplorable.

Same old same old cheating storyline for Tyrone and Fiz,first Tyrone cheated on Maria with Fiz,then on Kirsty with Fiz and now on Alina who suffered a miscarriage because of Hope being a pyromaniac.
Of course the only reason that Fiz wants Tyrone back so she and Hope can remain living in HIS house.

Great resumé!

No no Anon 1846. Fiz isn't mercenary. Just a bit dim where Hope is concerned. Also no proof that fire caused miscarriage. Alina felt unwell earlier that day.

You cannot say for certain that the fire caused Alina's miscarriage. You cannot "diagnose" what causes a miscarriage.
Fiz has every right to stay in HIS house, she is looking after Ruby,HIS daughter.
I'm going to say something really controversial. I really enjoyed this week's episodes, from Brian and Abi to Leanne and Debbie and P alliteration with Aggie and Sally. Hope they stay at this high quality

Anonymous[9;59]I believe Fiz does have a mercenary streak, she is Cilla's daughter after all!
The only reason why Fiz wanted to marry Tyrone in Greece was because she found out from Adam, the only way she would inherit from Tyrone's will was if she was married to him otherwise his estate including the house would go to Ruby.

Anonymous[11;44For Ruby's safety,Tyrone needs to get Fiz and Hope out of HIS house as Fiz has demonstrated now and in the past[when she let Ruby take the blame for Hope's bad behaviour]that she'll always favor her pschyopathic daughter no matter what!
Fiz almost threw Evelyn out of Tyrone's house because Evelyn knew that Alina was pregnant and she told Tyrone to stay away from her and the girls even though Ruby is living in HIS house.
Perhaps Fiz and Hope can move in the fire damaged salon flat. Then she would realise how serious Hope's crime is.
