Sean Egan's book "50 Years of Coronation Street: The (Very) Unofficial Story" is an excellent read and it's now out in paperback.
You can read my review of it here.
Sean Egan was granted access to the show’s creators, producers, directors, writers and actors. With their aid, he constructed a fascinating account of how Coronation Street became the most successful drama in the history of UK television.
Acclaim for 50 Years of Coronation Street: The (Very) Unofficial Story
An invaluable guide to the making of a television classic”- Michael Cox, former Coronation Street director and producer
It rings very true, and there are some fascinating quotes from many old colleagues. A remarkable piece of work - John Finch, former Coronation Street scriptwriter and producer
Diligent and astonishingly detailed research has led to an absorbing narrative - Stan Barstow, author of A Kind of Loving, former Coronation Street consultant
Extremely accurate in its detail - coronationstreet.wikia.com

I also highly recommend it! Great read!
One of the best books ever written about Corrie - and probably THE best one written by an 'outsider' to the show. I absolutely loved it, although there were a few (not many) errors - Duggie Ferguson being referred to Duggie Henderson, Alice Pickins wrongly captioned as Annie Walker in a photo, a reference to Sally having married Danny Hargreaves, and a couple of others. It would be interesting to see if these have corrected for the paperback edition. Minor glitches aside, it is a great book and well worth buying a copy!
Do you know if it will be avaiable to those that live in United States ?
Definitive is the right word - nowhere else in print has the entire history of the Street been told in such detail. A must for every fan.
Well, this narrows down my Christmas list. Thanks for the information, and thanks in advance from the four people who are going to receive it!
I might wait for it to end up in the pound shops. Actually managed to buy 2 Corrie books from there and they're really good.
