Meet Sylvie Cropper, mother to resident oddball Roy Cropper. ITV.com have revealed that Sylvie will be played by 'Doc Martin' actress, Stephanie Cole. She arrives early next year to stay with Roy and Hayley, and soon makes her presence felt.
Coronation Street producer Phil Collinson said of the casting: "I am delighted to welcome Stephanie Cole to the cast. I have long been an admirer, from the brilliant dramatic performances she gave in Tenko, to the side splitting Diana in Waiting For God - she is one of this country's finest actors. Life at Roy's Rolls is never going to be the same again."
Stephanie is the latest in a line of new castings, including Andrew Lacel as Frank Foster and Chris Fountain as Tommy Duckworth.

Words cannot express how brilliant this is going to be!!
Love love love her!
Oh yes! I love Stephanie Cole.
Fantastic addition to the cast - can't wait!
Great choice, love Stephanie Cole!
Would seem to be an excellent piece of casting!
Well that just made my day! Stephanie is one of our very finest actresses. I can't wait to see her onscreen.
she is a great actress and has good comic timing - could be the next blanche hunt in the making - i can just see Roy's eyes rolling now.
that rather loud THUD you just heard was not the sound of Kevin landing on 'The Bride of Chuckys Coffin' - it was me fainting at the amazingness of this casting xx
Brilliant casting. Are we in for an era of great placement of actors? I wonder how she'll play Roy's Mum. She played every character differently in the few TV shows I've seen with her. In WFG she was cantakerous. In Doc Martin, down to earth. In Keeping Mum, she was a clever scatterbrain. Can't wait!
Maybe the new "Ena Sharples eh!!!
A perfect choice for Roy's mum. She could be a real winner for Corrie if they use her talents.
One of the best, cant wait and I have to be very patient, we are in Canada and are 10 months behind ! ! !
Oh I missed her so since as Tom she got dumped at the altar on Waiting for God, i just hope she brings that cane with her to Coronation Street she could cause such malice with it.
Then again with Sylvie Cropper who will she have the best rapport with on the street (Othar than with Roy & Hayley). My bet is Norris Cole will be the winner of that relationship prize fight.
What I worry about is will she be stuck in a Wheel Chair like Maude Grimes?!
Being in Canada we are so far behind and I can not wait to see Stephanie Cole on the street. Just loved her in Waiting For God, and Dr. Martin. I hope she will be just as feisty on Corrie. WOW!!
Great Casting.
I hate to see some of the old ones leaving but there comes a time when new blood is needed. Congrats.
Yes this is going to be amazing. Hayley and Roy deserve some spotlight for a change because I feel like the writers forget about them. I can't wait. I am looking forward to it.
Agreed. Brilliant casting! Now all those who have complained about the new young actors can sit back and relax. Stephanie Cole is a perfect fit. Long may she reign!
Looking forward to seeing how she gets on with Norris.. HeeHee
Oh. That's good news about Stephanie Cole joining Corrie! Please don't let her be too nasty, though. Let's see the soft side to her nature, too. It should bring some humour into the stories, anyway, thank goodness.
Stephanie Cole is brilliant,
BUT
Doesn't anyone remember that Roy's parents didn't attend Roy and Haley's wedding, because they were both DEAD !!!
I like this actress, she was great on Doc Martin I loved that show.
This would make Roy Cropper and Doc Martin first cousins. Obviously, the peculiarity genes are working hard in that family
