Reading comments about the media and all the speculation surrounding Coronation Street's upcoming 50th anniversary spoilers has me thinking.
We read so much that is pure speculation based on actors we know are leaving, oh yes, they're ALL GOING TO DIE the headlines scream! Are they? Some will, no doubt, but the media is clearly guilty of winding us up a lot of the time so that they can sell papers and it seems to work because none of them seem to be suffering much.
Anyway, I've written a bit more about it over here.

Great read! It has been annoying me that the papers claim that the production team are just doing this to 'shock', when the crash itself seems a small part of anniversary week and the rest will be real character drama, seeing characters how we've never seen them, not to mention that the other storylines are apparently going to be a big part of the week, the crash isn't just a stunt like Siege week was, it's a vehicle to take the characters out of their usual situations and to show them off.
Though the tabloid mania will help Corrie, it helps build momentum and anticipation, but with the fake stories being sent out, we wont know how it will all play out until its on TV (with siege week we knew exactly what would happen and when). One thing I'm sure of though - Jack will most likely be the focus of the 9th Dec episode.
I mentioned the 'big tram crash' to my son yesterday and he asked "Doesn't anyone on Coronation Street ever die of 'natural causes'"?
I couldn't think of too many; Vera of course but most have a sensational final exit.
The build up to this tram disaster is certainly going to be sensationalized by the media, especially with all the international special effects companies getting involved;very expensive deal and therefore requires lots of publicity.
I object to the description "Blood bath" but it sounds more the kind of thing that would grab lots of hoped for attention.
I would prefer Jack to go by suicide; it's an unexplored area and I think it can be handled sensitively, poignantly and very paper hankie worthy.
I hope this new era of Coronation Street will meet the expectations of all the viewers, 'old' and 'new'.
I have found the show to be very entertaining lately, I am so happy with the acting, the humour, the wonderful balance of most of the story lines.
I hope it continues on this way, but big changes don't always run smoothly.
After all the hype I'm going to be disappointed if there ISN'T a "bloodbath" now ;))
