Charlotte Jordan interview: Daisy caught in blackmail plot

Daisy now knows that Ryan's been stripping off for cash. What does she make of all of that?

She's not really sure what to make of it. She really involved herself and Ryan's recovery, because she feels so responsible for it. But when they started to get closer, and they had a couple of those naughty kisses, she decided to try and distance himself from him, to try and put her and Daniel's relationship first. She doesn't want to give into temptation and be a cheat. So she put some distance between them. And now she’s found out about this, again, she sort of feels responsible for something that's not so great in Ryan's life. So she's really concerned. And she feels that she could have probably helped him a bit more.

Having been through her own traumas online, is she concerned that this won’t end well with him?

Yeah, I think obviously, she's going to be a lot more aware of the dangers of social media and the dark side to the web now. So she’s definitely concerned for him.

Daniel and Ryan have bonded recently, and they seem to be becoming quite pally. Is Daisy concerned about that?

Yes, because it's not good! They've decided to give them this little bromance right at the worst time for her, she can't think of anything worse than those worlds colliding. But it's really suspicious if she makes a fuss about it. So she's just got to roll with it. And, on the other hand, she does want Ryan to have some form of support system. So she's got to lump it.

Daniel asks Ryan to give a talk at the STC, and Daisy goes along to support him. Does she think this is a positive step for Ryan to give this talk?

I think she's apprehensive when Daniel first brings it up, because she's not totally sure that Ryan's in a great mental place to do it. But once Ryan decides that he is ready, and he wants to do it, then it's her job just to support him. The only way she knows how to do that is say, ‘Okay, well, I'll come and do it with you’. But she's not sure how it's going to go. I think she sort of assumes it's not going to go brilliantly. And when she watches him deliver this wonderful, moving speech about what he's been through and how his recovery has been, she's really proud. And she sees what a good person he is, and why she likes him so much after putting a bit of space between them. So it just reignites the fire, if you will.

Later in the week, she does see an uncharacteristic display of aggression from Ryan. What happens, and how does she react to him lashing out at people?

They go for a walk, and Ryan gets some water splashed on him, and he just totally snaps. I think Daisy does instantly realise that it put him back in the mental state of when the acid attack happened. So she does say to him, it's not real, it's okay. But she doesn't really understand quite why he's so aggressive. He's ready to beat people to a pulp. And that's not obviously the sort of person he is normally, and there have been previous displays of aggression and snappy behaviour. She's not too sure what's going on, but she's determined to find out.

She does find out because he breaks down and tells her all about taking steroids! How does she react to that confession?

She's just heartbroken for him again, like with the distance she put between them to try and save her and Daniel’s relationship. She just feels responsible all over again. But she also knows that no one's really getting through to him at the minute, and you can't help someone if they don't want to help themselves. So she just says, look, you call me when you're ready to have these conversations and you're ready to  change the things you're doing. This isn't who you are.

Later in the week he makes a video that he posts online, and he finally shows his scars to his followers, which is a huge step for him. How does Daisy react when she sees him taking that brave step?

She's really proud. I think she's really moved by it. She wasn't expecting him to do it so soon, but and I think she also feels, again, that they've really got this connection because she's the one that's gotten through to him, and she's the one that said, this isn't who you are, you need to come clean, and he's done that pretty quickly. So I think it just confirms to her that they do have a really wonderful bond and connection.

That prompts her to go round to see him – what happens next?

She goes round just to tell him how proud she is and how wonderful he is, and before you know it, one thing leads to another – and inappropriate things happen for a woman who is soon to be wed to another! Oh Daisy!

Where’s her head at?

Well, this is the thing, she knows what’s right and she knows what’s wrong, she’s tried to put distance between them, but once she’s in a private space with Ryan, it all seems to go out the window and she totally follows her heart and lives to regret it every time. But she can’t seem to help herself. It’s all about the trauma bond, and it’s all about how no one else can understand what they’ve been through and what binds them together when she’s alone with him.

How does she feel when she hears Daniel at the door?

Pure panic, pure fear, it’s like a bucket of cold water over her, she’s back to reality and it dawns on her the gravity of what she’s done. And yeah, I think it’s just fear and panic.

How does Daisy feel when she finds out about Lauren trying to blackmail them?

She’s constantly trying to put out fires. She is exhausted, she is overwhelmed, she is feeling all the feelings, and she’s just trying to keep her head above water. She doesn’t want Daniel to find out because she does love him.

If you were Daisy’s friend, what advice would you give her?

Honesty is the best policy. I think she should have come clean even about the kisses she had with Ryan and explained how confused she is, and how she’s got feelings for both of them. And I think Daniel at that time probably would have been quite understanding about it if she’d just been honest. Because I think anyone would understand the bond they’ve got now, and I don’t think it’s crazy for her to have these romantic feelings for him, so I’m sure he’d have been quite understanding. But now, in true Daisy fashion, she’s gone about it in quite a deceitful way where she’s now lying and getting blackmailed, and all these plates are juggling around her. I don’t think it’s going to go down very well now!  She’s gone about it in the wrong way – she’s made her bed, and now she’ll have to lie in it!

I'm annoyed that a issue storyline,[Daisy being stalked and the acid attack]has been undermined by another cheating storyline.
The writers did this before with Tyrone's abuse storyline and his affair with Fiz also undermining the storyline's message and sadly they doing the same with Daisy.

I mean they both suffered together and as Charlotte said you can fall in love in these situations, just because you suffered doesn't mean you can't fall in love.
