Win Daisy Midgeley's wedding dress and support South London Hospice

A dress worn by Coronation Street’s Daisy Midgeley is to be auctioned off in support of South London Hospice St Christopher’s.

The charity is holding its first ever wedding fair as demand for pre-loved deals surges amid the cost of living crisis.

Now brides-to-be can secure a very special dress, courtesy of the world’s longest running soap.

The mermaid-style sleeveless dress was worn by character Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) during her dramatic wedding day episode which aired in March. It’s been donated by a friend of the hospice and will be up for auction at the event on Saturday July 1.  The elegant floor-length gown comes with a signed photograph of Charlotte wearing the dress and a certificate of authenticity.

St Christopher’s, which has 24 shops across five south London boroughs, has seen a sharp rise in the number of people looking for sustainable bargains, particularly when it comes to special occasions.

Hosted at the hospice’s Education Centre in Sydenham, St Christopher’s Sustainable Wedding Fair will take place over the weekend of July 1 and 2 and will feature live music, catwalk fashion shows, a shopping area with new and pre-loved wedding stock and the chance to meet St Christopher’s wedding supplier partners

The majority of the other wide range of other gowns on sale at the event were generously donated by a local wedding dress business which was closing down. They donated over 50 stunning new dresses to the hospice in 2022 along with other wedding outfits and glamorous accessories.

The charity’s retail team are pulling out all the stops to make it a weekend to remember and have invited local wedding suppliers and partners, including florists, wedding décor specialists, jewellers, photographers, beauticians and entertainment specialists. There’ll also be a prosecco bar and the chance to meet and discuss with a local registrar to find out more details about wedding ceremonies

A spokeswoman for Coronation Street said: "Daisy's dress is beautiful, the episode was so dramatic that we had to make a number of dresses for Charlotte to wear across the three weeks it took to film the scenes. We are delighted that one of those dresses is now going to raise much needed funds for St Christopher's Hospice."

Ginger Bujdoso, Head of Retail at St Christopher’s, said: “This is our first ever Sustainable Wedding Fair and our aim is to bring together local businesses, supporting the local community the same way as they’ve always supported St Christopher’s.

“This is the perfect opportunity to connect with our partners, to promote sustainable fashion and to raise extra awareness on our mission and values

“Sustainability is so important for St Christopher’s and we’re excited to show people our range of dresses and attire, both pre-loved and brand new, whilst raising valuable funds for the hospice.”

Speaking at the time the Coronation Street wedding storyline aired, actress Charlotte Jordan told the Express.co.uk: “The wedding dress had to be “Daisyfied” but it also had to be practical for what the purpose was for it.

“There was going to be a lot of physicality down the line. So, it couldn’t have been this massive heavy ball gown. Initially, it was strapless and I felt we had to add some security to the top of it so that when she’s running around later I’m protected.”
