Coronation Street Episode Review Monday 20th July
What other tricks has Ghastly Geoff got up his sleeve? How many more evil plans does he have? Today, he is having breakfast with Brian! How much worse can you get?! (I did think Brian was Team Yasmeen due to his relationship with Cathy, but never mind). Back at the hospital, DJ Geoff does his best Alan Partridge and "Jolly Geoff, the Geoffster, the Geoff-meister" says he's going to be candid with his listeners, using his "Pistol of truth and I'm going to shoot from the hip. But first up, Lynsey de Paul!" (excellent bit of writing from my fave Corrie scribe, Jonathan Harvey).
Meanwhile, Yas has a visitor from a women's charity, who turns out to be not so much Women's Aid as Man About The House as Elaine is played by (Dame) Paula Wilcox, who tells her that she is another one of Geoff's victims.
It's happy families at number 13 as Abi moves out of Sally's and into Kevin's. So the whole twins-down-under story was just to move Ab 'n' Kev (Kabi?) to the next level, I presume. Sal is "emoji" (emosh) at Abi's departure, probably because she's just going to get Tim sulking at her for the next few weeks. Abi invites Sulky Seb around for tea (a not very appetising sounding pasta, pesto and tuna chunks).
Gary finds out that Laura has been hurting Kelly (who has bruises on her wrists) and tells her, forcibly, that she better not do it again and she needs to up her game. She leaves the furniture shop upset, witnessed by Adam. He, in the meantime, has rung up Gary's storage unit and got the details of the ginger ninja's locker.
Oh, and Daniel meets up with Naughty Nicki for more of his "therapy", which involves the blonde Katy Harris putting on Sinead's cardigan and perfume and having a cuddle with Danny-boy. Fortunately, she doesn't do the voice.

If only the writers had made Geoff even remotely charming, it would have been easier to believe he has two sides to him. The only time I think he is genuinely loving is with Faye, who presents no challenges at all and is a kind of 'young Tim'. It might have helped if we'd seen a lot more two-hander scenes with Geoff and Faye. Still, we haven't so we have to believe that Geoff has hundreds of devoted listeners and, by suggestion, there must be lots of people around who like him. But the actor is just too good at being creepy and always has been in my opinion.
Two questions from last night (only two, I hear you say!). Since when could Hospital radio be heard in a corner shop miles away, never mind that the greaseball hasn’t been broadcasting for months, and by what process did the lovely Paula Wilcox know about our Yaz and step forward as the previous wife ?
Dhvinyl: I guess the story about Yasmeen and Geoff would have been in the paper and Paula Wilcox read about it. Your other point is a very good one!
When Geoff was talking to Brian in Roy's Rolls, he said there was an app that Brian could listen to it on. Brian said he would download the app. Hey presto! Modern technology eh?
I wonder if the Daniel scenes that didn't happen were edited out to make room for other, rewritten material, necessary because of script changes (not having the senior cast &c). There'll probably be a lot more of that sort of thing as Covid (finally) reaches Weatherfield next week.
I thought Geoff's previous wife (Tim's mum) was called Tessa, not Elaine - or have I got that wrong?
I felt that the Daniel and Nicola scene was actually quite creepy myself.
I agree that it's odd that there's been no Fay and Geoff scenes.
