Corrie Comicals Week ending 17 August 2018
Welcome to another look at the lighter side of weekly events in Weatherfield. My starting point is with what (despite one small dark cloud) I hope will mark a bright future for the Street. I never quite took to Peter and Toyah at the Rovers and of the current pairings on the Street I can see huge benefits from having Johnny and Jenny taking the reins. It is not quite what Jenny anticipated when she married Johnny but she is adaptable and I hope that they will prove warm welcoming hosts. Sean did not deserve the sack (remember only he knows the hotpot recipe) and I hope this will soon be sorted out. And Gemma looks like being a little star. Hopefully the Rovers will be front and centre of activity.
But before we leave this gold mine Sean had demonstrated to Sally how to do a warm and welcoming face whilst standing (not lurking) at the back of the bar. Sally had in return shown her warm and welcoming expression which as Sean pointed out (rather more politely) was more suited to a back street scrubber looking for business! Thanks for the entertainment!
There always ought to be room for one of Mary's little stories in this blog. This week she is celebrating her son's two years of marriage by recounting her first relationship, which lasted a mere six months, with a carpenter from Sorrento who made some intricate but lucrative coffins. I am convinced that if you added up Mary's little stories she is about 200 years old!
Gemma has been improving the ladies toilet, leaving some body spray - which she notices Eileen has sprayed on herself and which Gemma reckons is "classy" and Eileen says it smells more like floor cleaner with a touch of Grandma. Eileen has also half inched the nail polish from the toilet and is caught out by Gemma as she opens her purse to pay the amazingly small sum of £2.50 for a glass of wine. Once again the strange pricing in the Rovers leaves me stunned.
The best comedy comes with great timing. Peter is still chasing Carla and having agreed to "forget" Wednesday's kiss he leans in to give her another one, but she turns tail as he lunges towards her and he misses completely. Great timing. And we can all see where this little game will end up despite what is being said!
Sally has just told Peter Barlow that he was always her favourite boss. Johnny heard this and welcomed Carla into the Rovers. Sally shot up and peered over the booth top to find no sign of Carla and that she has been comprehensively "had". As before timing and the cut of the shot was impeccable. Just a reminder of the skill and effort that goes into making our favourite programme - which is why I am here - to remind us all of the lighter moments.

Sean did deserve the sack - he was stealing.
Sean was showing Jenny, not Sally, how to do a welcome face.
Sean’s a long term employee, J&J are wet behind the ears owners. Yes he was wrong, but it was fairly small, and could have easily been smoothed over with a fib and a reprimand. As soon as the weather cools down and people want their hotpots, he’ll be back.
