Tributes flood in for Liz Dawn
Tributes have flooded in for the actress Liz Dawn who passed away this week. A lot of the Coronation Street cast, writers and directors, via Twitter, have shared memories and photographs of their time working with the actress who played Vera Duckworth for over 30 years. The BBC have compiled some of the tributes from the cast here.
Samia Longchambon (Maria Connor) and Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs) spoke to BBC 5 live's Adrian Chiles about their experience of working alongside the actress. You can listen to their interview here.
Yesterday on the BBC national news at 6pm, William Roache (Ken Barlow) and Alan Halsall (Tyrone Dobbs) spoke about their time working with Liz Dawn. And also in that news segment our blogger Michael Adams was interviewed outside of the Coronation Street studios in Salford to give a fan view of what Vera meant to us.
You can watch the BBC News tribute from 11 minutes and 39 seconds here.
Kevin Kennedy (Curly Watts) played tribute to Liz Dawn on ITV's This Morning and you can watch it here.
In today's Guardian G2, Lucy Mangan pays a wonderful tribute to Liz Dawn and you can read it here.
And on a personal note, my own tribute to Liz Dawn is that my memory of having the pleasure to meet her at home in Manchester a couple of years ago is a memory that I will treasure forever. She called me a "lovely big lass" and that's a compliment I'll never forget. She was generous to a fault and everything you'd hope an icon to be in real life. My love and thoughts go to Liz's husband Don and all of her family. She truly was an amazing woman.

Just found out of the passing of Liz Dawn, condolences to her family, friends and the cast of Corrie. A bright star has dimmed. For me Coronation Street was always "Jack and Vera" my favorite couuple, so down to earth, but supportive of each other. May her many fans remember their favorite moments she gave us.
