Hostage storyline coming up in Coronation Street

In this week's TV Times there's a few Coronation Street spoilers.  They're teasing Nick and Leanne possibly getting back together and Tracy's deadly diagnosis (which we blogged about here).

But in amongst the summer spoilers there's a little piece that I didn't know about. Sarah Platt is going to be taken hostage - by Billy the Vicar's brother!

Yes, the TV Times says that Billy's brother Lee lures Sarah to his bedsit and demands money frm the vicar before he sets Sarah free.  She finally manages to escape Lee's clutches but is clearly not well and David and Kylie are in a quandary as to what to do. Do they help Sarah or keep quiet incase she blabs about Callum?

I wish Sarah and Bethany would go back to Milan. I couldn't stand Sarah's character years ago and was disheartened to find out she was coming back. I don't know why the writers are so obsessed with the Platts always being front and centre.

Is this some of Kate Oates nonsense or is this still Blackburns?

I agree that Sarah and Bethany should return to Milan as this is the fourth time she's been held hostage, the internet pervert, her stepfather Richard Hillman,Callum and now Billy's brother?!Obviously, the writers don't really know what to do with Sarah and yet other characters are pushed out.
I wonder if Kylie gets killed in the crossfire?

Well remembered re Sarah's hostage history! I hope Kylie isn't killed off as I've really got to like her, but maybe that would be a better exit than her being sent down for Callum's murder, if Paula Lane is leaving permanently.

I think they are grooming Sarah as the new Gail, the next generation of Corrie martyr. As Helen Worth ages it would be cruel to keep piling on the misery on pensioner.

Enough Platt drama. Can't they come up with something else?!?!

Wholeheartedly agree that Sarah and Bethany should go back to Milan. Can't stand either of them, both very poorly played.

LOVE THE PLATTS....THEY SHOULD HAVE THEIR OWN SPINOFF
WHOEVER DOES NOT LIKE THE PLATTS SHOULD NOT WATCH BECAUSE THEY ARE THE BACKBONE OF THE SHOW!

Also, just off topic a bit, but whatever happened to Bethany's bullying storyline? Once she got into Luke's car, the storyline has never been aired again?

2 weeks behind in Canada... But,
I have been paying closer attention to Sarah (or Tina's, rather) acting lately. She is quite a good actress, just an annoying character at the moment.
I wish Kylie wasn't leaving the show. Not somuch that I love the character, but a big gap is left for David and the kids without her obviously. I know the UK soaps never immediately replace actresses (which in fact, I have always admired) but I must admit, I would try to welcome a new actress into the role if it could happen.

To shouty Anonymous at 22:50, I suspect there are only two unpopular Platts (Sarah and Bethany), not the whole family. Personally, David is one of my Street favourites.

And to Tee in Toronto, I agree with you about hiring new actors for popular characters. Why should we have to suffer just because an actor wants to move on? No-one is indispensable.

I was thinking the same thing--why not bring in a new actress for Kylie? Sometimes, it makes sense to have the character go out with a bang because they are irreplaceable or have reached a natural conclusion to their story, but in others why not replace the actor rather than remove the character. Kylie (the character) belongs on the Street with David! Not to mention, how many times do those poor children have to see their mom come and go?!

As a 2nd generation Coronation Street follower, The Platts are
and always will be part of Corrie, just as the cobbled streets are part of Corrie!

Totally agree about replacing Paula Lane with another actress. Lots of Corrie characters have had body transplants. I am not over fond of the Kylie character but she should stay on the show as the character is important.

Some have said they wish Sarah and Bethany would go back to Milan. I can't understand WHY they don't return. Bethany, who's bullied at school, and Sarah, who's having a nervous breakdown, actually prefer Weatherfield? I'd have been on that plane long ago. I generally like the Platts but when story lines are first based on an uncharacteristic premise, then become even more contrived to keep up that premise, they never feel right and become tiresome and ultimately unbelievable.

Lynne from Ottawa -- Please don't tell me that Sarah falls in love with her captor? The whole Sarah/Bethany saga since their return from Milan has not worked at all; it's just bad acting and storylines.

Never mind about Sarah and Bethany, tiresome though they are, what I want to know is, where is Lily Platt? She seems ominously quiet for a two year old ...
