This was the week when Corrie said goodbye to two of its best characters and I will miss them both.  Julie Carp and Brian Packham left the Street in the back of Lloyd’s cab heading to the airport and the adventure of a round-the-world trip.  It was a last minute change of heart for Julie to go on the trip after she gave Dev what-for, and no mistake, and told him that they had no future together. Brian gallantly offered Julie her round-the-world ticket to go alone without him. Julie, realising Brian’s sacrifice for her happiness, then allowed him to accompany her. As the cab rolled off the cobbles with Julie and Brian in the back of it, Julie wasn’t happy with Brian having his ‘cat who’s got the cream smile’ all over his face. Brian quietly told Lloyd that Julie was wrong, it was his ‘I’m so happy I could cry smile’ that was all over his face. A touching moment - and I do hope it won’t be the last we see of these two.

Michael goes to see Gail and she begs him to come home. With defences down and in the spirit of honesty between husband and wife, Michael reveals his little bit of sofa bump and grind with Eileen. Well, that sets off Gail again and she storms round to the hair salon to where Eileen’s having her hair done. In her rage, Gail starts chucking hair products all over the place then drags Eileen outside for a fight. Once upon a time these fights used to be funny, this one was embarrassing for all, even watching it made me cringe. Nick separates the warring women and then Michael saunters past to see why this hoo-hah is happening. He can’t believe his eyes when he sees Gail and Eileen fighting and he can’t believe his ears when he hears Gail slagging him off in the Street, to Eileen of all people, telling her she wondered why she went after her husband in the first place: “He’s a failed burglar, with a dodgy heart and a fondness for Y-fronts!’ Unsurprisingly, Michael tells Gail he wants a divorce. Oh Gail, you’re your own worst enemy.

In the back room of the Rovers, Dan the brewery man sets up a poker game and Carla joins in. She wipes the smirk of Dan’s face when she wins all his cash. He’s not best pleased to have been beaten by a woman.  That smirk on his face takes a nasty turn when Liz introduces him to Leanne and they recognise one another. Dan’s a face from Leanne’s past when she worked as a prostitute. It’s fair to say she isn’t too happy to be reintroduced to Dan, there’s bad memories there.

Steve returns from Spain and is incensed to find out that Tony now owns half of the pub. Now then, I’m confused. I thought Carla had bought the other half of the pub, but maybe Liz still owns it? If you can help out with definite proof of who owns what, I’d be very grateful indeed.  Anyway, this prompts Liz to start thinking about getting her own back on Tony. She enlists Michelle as her second in command, applies war paint for the battle and the two of them nick the keys to the builder’s yard and go through Tony’s paperwork. They want to know where he’s gone and what he’s up to.  So does Tracy Barlow, who gets arrested when Liz tips off the cops about a delivery of what she thinks is stolen goods to Barlow’s Buys. The goods are legit, and Tracy has a receipt so she’s set free from the cop shop in a very bad mood.  Tracy decides she needs to find Tony first before Liz collars him and determines to set off for that London to find him herself.

Roy’s friend Cathy gets herself into a pickle this week when the bailiffs arrive. Roy’s about to sit his driving test but helps Cathy instead when she loses her handbag and purse. Then she calls him to say the bailiffs are outside of her house demanding entry. Carla drives Roy to Cathy’s house and they have a word with the bailiffs. Roy offers to pay Cathy’s debts but they’re over £3,000 and Roy doesn’t think he can get that much out of the cashpoint in one go. It was a lovely thought, though.  Anyway, Cathy eventually lets the bailiffs in but they’re only in there two seconds before they walk out muttering that she needs psychological help. Worried, Roy and Carla go into Cathy’s house and are shocked to find it’s chock full of rubbish, floor to ceiling. She’s a hoarder. The house is full of boxes and rubbish and things she just can’t get rid of, not since her husband died. It’s all very sad but we know that if anyone can help her, Roy can.

Erica’s back on the street after she was discharged from hospital after losing the baby. It’s a complicated situation for Erica, Nick and Carla. Carla wants Nick. Nick wants stability but snogs Carla. Erica wants to be loved.  Nick and Erica decide they’ll give it a go but I’m not sure it’s going to end well, this one.
