Back in the bad old days, Coronation Street on Canadian screens was aired nearly a year behind the UK storylines. A couple of years ago, CBC (the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) caught up and we've been just about 2 weeks behind. Now, CBC is going to catch us up a little bit more. Canadian fans will be delighted to know that Corrie in Canada will be just a heady ONE WEEK behind the UK air dates.
On the week of September 29, check your local schedules. There will be two extra episodes on both Monday, September 29 and Tuesday, September 30. By the end of the week, we in Canada will be just one week behind the UK airdates.
The schedule is as follows:
Mon. Sept. 29
6:30 PM Coronation Street Episode #8470
7:00 PM Coronation Street Episode #8471
7:30 PM Coronation Street Episode #8472
Encore at 12:30 AM - 2 AM the next day.
Tue. Sept. 30
6:30 PM Coronation Street Episode #8473
7:00 PM Coronation Street Episode #8474
7:30 PM Coronation Street Episode #8475
Encore at 12:30 AM - 2 AM the next day.
Wed. Oct. 1
6:30 PM Coronation Street Episode #8476
Encore at 12:30 AM - 1 AM the next day.
Thu. Oct. 2
6:30 PM Coronation Street Episode #8477
Encore at 12:30 AM - 1 AM the next day.
Fri. Oct. 3
6:30 PM Coronation Street Episode #8478
Encore at 12:30 AM - 1 AM the next day.
CBC's listings don't go as far as the Sunday omnibus on October 5 but they will show the whole set of episodes, even if the start time is changed. Likely, it will start at the same time as usual in your local region.
Check CBC's website here and change the city to your local area.

HURRAAHHH!!!!
Well done!!
I hope this also means more respect for Corrie viewers during hockey playoffs.
Brilliant... now if they can air Doctor Who same day viewing (albeit 5 hours later), why not Corrie? Just wishing. :-)
CBC likely has a contracted agreement with ITV for when they can air the show. Space in Canada would have a different contract with BBC.
I just wish the CBC would run the 1 Hour UK episodes in Canada as 1 hour episodes as well instead of splitting it up.
It defeats the purpose of catching up when they run the 1 hour episodes as two episodes and slip a day every time they do that so if there are a few 1 hour episodes in the UK within a short period of time we in Canada will be back to two weeks behind unless they run the UK 1 hour episodes as 1 hour episodes.
The UK shows can't be on the same day as the ones in Canada, because Coronation Street in the UK gets pre-empted for specials, sports and sudden news events.
And then there will be extra episodes on occasion as well but it seems like CBC has a committment to keep Canadian fans fairly well up to date
CBC are really upping their game lately. I have to admit having viewed the schedule for the next few weeks that I was dubious about being so close to the UK, but if it's to remain a constant, great! I was a little dubious about how close we have been getting, especially with 6 episodes over 2 days at the end of the month, but if it's to ensure that we remain a week behind instead, I'm not going to complain.
Great news! I think we have some serious Corrie fans at the CBC looking out for us. Visits by the actors to Canada must help too. Though I still think they cut little bits out of each episode, which annoys me. Or am I wrong?
Usually when ITV air 1 hour eps its due to scheduling clashes with Luve Football. It is not extra episodes just moving the one ep to another day. It's only usually christmas day wheres theres an extra 1 hour ep.
Thanks for the heads-up, Tvor. While I'm glad of this news, I wonder how much of this concern for Corrie viewers is due to the budget cuts at the CBC. (Gee thanks, Harper!) They don't have the money for productions of their own, so they have to make sure they keep the viewers of the shows they buy from other sources.
The CBC weeknight airings do cut out lines. If you watch the Sunday repeats you'll catch bits that were preempted by commercials during the weeknights.
