On Saturday 15 June at the Theatre Royal in Brighton, there's an opportunity to hear from Jonathan Harvey, award-winning playwright and Coronation Street writer.
To mark the 20th anniversary of his groundbreaking play Beautiful
Thing, Jonathan Harvey will be appearing ‘In Conversation with…’ author
and Polari host Paul Burston on Saturday 15 June at 6pm at Theatre
Royal, Brighton.
A brand new production of Beautiful Thing debuted in London last
month and will tour to Brighton’s Theatre Royal from 10-15 June.
Jonathan will be joining us after the matinee performance on 15 June to
talk about the challenges of writing for stage and screen, the changes
in gay culture and lifestyle, his wild and wonderful career and his soap
heroes and heroines.
One of the most distinctive voices of his generation, Jonathan Harvey
is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter and novelist. Born in
Liverpool and now based in London, he’s been responsible for some of the
most poignant, touching and comedic moments in gay culture.
His critically acclaimed stage plays include The Cherry Blossom Tree,
Babies, Beautiful Thing, Boom Bang-a-Bang, Guiding Star, Hushabye
Mountain, Out in The Open and Canary.
A lead writer on Coronation Street, his other film and television
credits include Gimme Gimme Gimme, Rev, Shameless, At Home With The
Braithwaites, The Catherine Tate Show and Murder Most Horrid.
Originally trained as an English teacher, he published his debut novel All She Wants in 2012.
