RIP Daphne.
That is sad. Wish she could have put in a guest appearance or two over the years.
I always thought her character was nice, but bland. I didn't know she was the voice of 'Listen With Mother', I used to listen to that faithfully when I was a little girl. "Are you sitting comfortably?" (Christine wriggles bottom into chair to make sure) "Then I'll begin".
RIP Daphne, I liked Esther she was the streets listening ear, especially to Ken, Val, Lucille and Christine, like it has been said, would of been nice if she had made a few more guest appearances after her last in 1972. It would be nice if someone did a small article on here remembering Esther Hayes and of course Daphne Oxenford
Yes someone should do an article please... afterall she is a character who to my knowledge never entered the Rovers Return, that makes her abit special!!.... I am sure Ida Barlow went in the rovers as Elsie Tanner got her drunk ! can anyone clarify???? many thanks
I enjoyed her portrayal of the post office lady in To the manor born too. RIP Daphene.
Who?
She never played a good part so wasn't exactly going to get a big mention unlike Jack Duckworth and Eddie Yeats, who where actually Corrie Icons. Who would remember Esther now???
She appeared in "Man About The House" too in the 1970's as Chrissy's Mum
