A leaner, possibly meaner Peter Barlow is back on the cobbles this week. It will be good to see him back. The actor who plays Peter, Chris Gascoyne, is doing the rounds of the press with interviews on Peter's return and there's a good one in the Mirror today.
Chris tells us that Peter's problems and negativity were getting more and more difficult to shed. He was finding it more and more difficult to leave the character on the set and really needed the time away to clear his head.
With the help of a week long Buddhist retreat in Scotland, it seems to have done the trick. He is also leaner (two stone lighter) and fitter and raring to go.
He also talks about meeting his wife and coping with the loss of his brother and father. He's looking forward to Peter being back and is quite content to continue to play Peter for as long as ITV will have him.
“I’d like Peter to stay forever,” he says. “It’s where he belongs and
if he did turn into his father Ken, it would be no bad thing. Peter is
still evolving so it keeps my job interesting."

He could stay away permanently for me.
Not bothered either way whether he comes back or not, I hope he stops the chain smoking, it really irritates me.
As well as a week long Buddhist retreat in Scotland, he went to a spa in Manchester (as spotted by a friend of mine who was surprised to find himself sharing a jacuzzi with Chris G).
I would have loved to have shared a jacuzzi with Chris G! :)
Good to see him back.
I hope Peter, in the form of Chris Gascoyne, stays forever, too. How great it will be to have a Barlow descendant making trouble like his dear old dad.
As long as I'm not subject to the merry-go-round of Carla/Peter/Leanne/Nick again..but I'm afraid that's just what the writers have in mind. Another scene where Carlas shows up drunk at the school to collect Simon. Another show-down at the airport with Simon blubbering away..another half assed cat fight between Carla and Leanne and we all know that Leanne will dump Nick for Peter once again...ZZZZZ
I have to say I was shocked reading that article and I think he's looking really good now.
I do love Peter, especially when he's with Carla. I think Chris Gascoyne has revealed new layers to his character since the writers paired Peter and Carla up. But I'm fed up of Peter sniffing around Leanne because he doesn't want Nick to have her. It's dreadful watching these characters interact now. Which is unfortunate because the actors are all very good.
