Lloyd is breaking my heart with his pain and utter dejection over Cheryl's betrayal. Lloyd is such an  underrated character that you forget how superb he really can be. He's everyone's mate and he's the ultimate nice guy who usually ends up finishing last but this really is rock bottom for his heart.
The way they've done this for a straight male character, showing a different type of male reaction to a relationship blowing up is refreshing, I think.  I've blogged more about it over here.

I agree with you and I loved your blog on it!

Craig Charles has really done a superb job over the last couple of weeks, I hope he is properly rewarded with better storylines next year. Would be nice to see him get a nod at the next Soap Awards as well - they seem to always nominate the same old people every year!
He started off quite differently, as a jack the lad with an eye for the ladies - I think his character changed around the time he went out with Liz, he became a bit less shallow, gained some integrity etc. I agree that it's an interesting writing choice to have him so heartbroken (and have been surprised that Craig C has acted it so well), but i think the main reason is to give Craig a (temporary) exit storyline.
I completely agree -- it has been an absolute pleasure to watch Lloyd onscreen recently. I had tears in my eyes when he told Cheryl he was nervous about 'taking on a kid' but he did it anyway. Absolutely heartbreaking.
Craig Charles was brilliant in Red Dwarf which only showed his gift for comedy. It was terrific to see he can handle tragedy, as well. I think the first stint of Corrie may have been affected by the actor's personal problems, and there was talk of him being a loner on the set. When he came back (and I've forgotten how they wrote him out for a while)he had improved. Of course, he still had to rely on ropey scripts until the last couple of weeks.
I can't imagine he was ever a 'loner' on set - he's always been very pally with Simon Gregson for a start. I think that was just the tabloids trying to stir things up. The only reason it's taken this long to show how well he can handle a decent plot line is because it's taken them forever to write one. Let's hope it doesn't take as long for them to give Dennis something interesting to do...
