I'm wondering who your favourite Coronation Street writers are, and if you have any comments on any of them that you'd like to share below.
My current favourite writers are Jonathan Harvey because when his name is on an episode you know it'll be funny and camp but also move the action on a fair bit. I also like Carmel Morgan a great deal because her episodes are full of drama and a bit gritty too. And since he retired, I do miss John Stevenson's warmth and humour.
But never mind me, who are your favourite writers? And what do you think it takes to be a very good writer on our favourite soap?

David Whalley & Chris Fewtrell are always reliable and I've noticed that Carmel Morgan is often partnered with Jonathan Harvey (i.e. Mon or Fri episodes) as they have the same tone.
Is Daran Little still there? Thought he'd moved to writing on scripted 'reality' shows.
Damon Rochford always pens a good ep. Daran Little always did too and you could be sure he'd throw in a nod to the past history.
I especially like Jonathan Harvey and Damon Rochefort. Daran Little is sadly missed though!
Jonathan Harvey, Damon Rochefort, Julie Jones, Jan McVery (or a spelling to that effect) and Mark Burt all seem to have that Corrie sparkle we all love...
I don't wish to be negative or discrediting to some of the writers but it's very apparent that there are weaker writers amongst the team. never more so than when there is a double bill written by two different writers, or where the next episode picks up exactely where the previous one left off.
For example, just caught up with Monday's and last night's episodes, with the latter being very poor in my opinion in comparison to the double bill on Monday. Infact I thought last night's episode was the poorest episode for a long time now and quite cringeworthy.
Perhaps Phil Collinson should streamline his team to make the writing a more consistant quality.

Couldn't agree more! Especially Kershaw..he particularly had a way with episodes where the women were the crux of the story.
the writers from the old days (adele rose, hv kershaw, john stevenson etc) were great but it was such a different show to what it is today. In those days it was all long conversations. These days I always know i'm in for a treat when i see the names (in this order) Jonathan Harvey, Damon Rochefort, Mark Burt, Jan McVerry, Carmel Morgan. Daran Little always included the oldies (emily, betty, rita, emily) and a nod to history. he is missed and sadly gone on to write for Eastenders and Made in Chelsea. I do think Corrie has the best soap writers in the UK. We are very lucky
My favourite writer is the one who writes the least "Americanism"
Lets hope we see some good down to earth northern characters using their charming and witty "Britishism"
