In addition to all of the official merchandise coming out for Coronation Street's 50th this year, this popped into my mailbox today.
It's a new book, out in September, called 50 years of Coronation Street: the (very) unofficial story.
The book says it features behind-the-scenes scoops and exclusive interviews with Corrie actors, writers and producers. Fans, it says, will "discover why the most successful programme on British television never made that much money for Granada TV; who played the famous cornet in the theme tune; the truth about the regime of producer Brian ‘Axeman’ Park and the tragic decline of Jennifer Moss, who was unable to deal with her fame."
You can pre-order it on Amazon here.

Amazon in Canada will deliver it in January, they say, along with the official 50th book.
What's that insipid minor character doing centre front?
Who on earth does she have the secret file on that keeps her in the show at all?
Her on-screen talent is minimal, so it must be something off-screen!
I have to admit I agree.
Michelle has been, and continues to be, absolutely pointless to Coronation Street.
Sticking her gobby picture on the book is rather tasteless.
Why do you think we never blog about her? Too many complaints! ;-)
Might have boght this if it wasn't for the cover photo - Bet Lynch, Annie Walker, Rita Sullivan, Elsie Tanner, there's an embarasment of riches of fantastic, multi faceted women who have all made a dynamic impact to the development and history of Corrie, but no. Michelle Connor. You have to question the judgement of the publishers.
@ Anon - I was shocked to see Michelle front and center too! I've never liked her as a character!
I wonder who she had to kiss up to? (or her publicist is very, very good at their job!)
Well, it IS called "The Very Unofficial" guide, which suggests to me it might involve a degree of muck-raking ... and perhaps Kym has a lot of muck to rake over ...?
Just a thought.
