One of the Sunday tabloids says that Coronation Street is planning to bring back Hilda Ogden this year. Hmm... I can't say I believe this as the article also says that Corrie plans a "blockbuster" live episode for its 50th anniversary and their quotes are only from "a mole".
Whether the story is true or not... how many of us would want to see Hilda Ogden back on the Street one more time?
I know I would!

It'd be nice for a one off appearance, not long term. Because by Hilda's departure in 1987, so much has changed with Annie, Elsie, Eddie and Stan's departures in the 1980s. That's why Jean Alexander decided to leave.
I probably think Mavis would fit in better as she still has links with Rita and Emily plus she had friendships with Ken, Deirdre, Audrey, Betty and Gail.
I would like to see Hilda return for a cameo and stay with the Websters as they stayed with her in their early years. I would also like to see Eddie Yates return with Marion and his grown up family.
I'm sure Kim Crowther said in an interview that they won't be doing a live episode. But it would be great to have Hilda back for a short stint.

I'd love to see her back for a visit but that article really reads as pure speculation. And Kim Crowther won't have anything to do with it anyway as she's leaving as producer very soon.
Current goss says no live episode, but they ARE approaching older, classic actors to "test the waters".
They'd have to sign up for it at least 6 months in advance in order for the writers to actually write scenes with them!
As much as I loved Hilda I don't feel there is any place for her on the show unless she returned with Eddie Yates and his wife and kids that I'd love to see!
I'd also love to see Curley back!
I would adore it if Hilda came back. The writers could come up with some reason for her returning to the street, she did give Kevin and Sally their start in marriage.
For a momentous occasion like the 50th anniversary, the producers would do well to bring back every character from the past they possibly can, at least for one episode.
Can't wait for it!!

Although I wasn't a viewer when she was on, I remember seeing her now and then. To me she was an icon of the 'real' England. I would love the chance to see her on CS! I also hope they use this opportunity to bring back many of the great characters of the past like Mavis, Curly, Reg, Toya, Andy, Alec and even Bet! Even if just for a quick visit.
