Local Hero: Thu Nov 5, 2009 Corrie Episode Review
Peter decides to let George have a meet with Simon. George comes over with his wife, Eve, who is now "Nana Eve," and meet Simon. Simon has questions for them, but mainly, "are you going to leave me, like you left my mum?" Granddad George promises that he won't leave him. Don't make promises to children that you cannot keep!
Acting-boss Webster isn't having an easy time of managing the factory girls. They're all wondering if Tony's going to return to Underworld or decide he doesn't need the stress and sell-up. Fiz figures at least then, they might get a nice boss. Pffft, like that'll ever happen. Is she new here?
Roy has been receiving gifts from Tony all day, and isn't happy about it. He goes to the hospital to confront Tony, not only about the gifts, but about his little confession. Tony makes up some tale about the fact that he felt "responsible" for Liam's death, because he was killed at his stag night, for why he feels he killed Liam. But, he does not admit to actually killing him. Roy is NOT convinced. He knows what he heard, and he knows what seems right. He's starting to think that maybe Maria wasn't crazy after all when she accused Tony of murdering Liam that while back. Uh oh, what Pandora's box have we opened here, and what will come out of it?
The boat is done, and Joe wants to take Gail out on it. Gail is hesitant because she's scared of water since that whole crazy-husband-tried-to-kill-me-and-me-kids-in-a-canal thingy. Joe later tells Gail he lost his part-time job, since the shop he worked for closed down. Gail assures him they'll be fine on her wage until he gets another job. Joe and David even go out fishing together on the boat! They catch a fine take-away for tea, and Gail insists that Joe keep the boat instead of selling it, since it makes him happy, thus, her happy. Gail is too good to him, I tell ya.
Norris tells Emily he's found a new shop assistant that he thinks is "the one." His name is Horace Steel. Horace and Norris - how gay.
Knock, knock. Who's there? Freda, that's who. And a stolen prosthetic leg. Yes, she stole her old employers prosthetic leg because the woman was a witch. Graeme walks in to see her holding it up, being there to wash Emily's windows, and is shocked. Emily's not happy about this, and Freda insists she'll give it back, but Emily says she could get arrested for theft! Graeme says the police won't look twice, since the employer hasn't got a leg to stand on! Haha. That Graeme. He and Emily could possibly make a good double-act, don't you think?
HIGHLIGHTS:
- Sally, diplomatically, telling the factory girls that they'll have to cut down on the tea breaks so that they can meet their production numbers. I thought she went about that quite well actually. Middle management suits our Sal.
- Kelly reckoning that her figure is as good as it was when she was 20, possibly better! Janice asking if she can borrow her mirror sometime. Can I borrow it too?
- Roy coming straight-out and confronting Tony about his "confession." A weaker man might not have had the gall to do so. Go Roy! Although, you fear for your life now.
LOWLIGHTS:
- I know they were nice and all, but there's just something I don't trust about Granddad George and his wife. Maybe, I'm just being paranoid.
- The Underworld staff sending a "get well" contribution fund to Tony, that sounded full of spare change. As if Tony Gordon needs, or would appreciate their chump change. Although, it's nice of them.
- The return of Freda. I don't really care much for her, to be honest. I don't find her interesting at all. Thank goodness that Graeme was in the scene to diffuse my indifference tonight.

I rather thought that Psycho-David was also still a bit squeamish about water as a result of the Hillman/Canal incident, not just Gail, as we saw when Charlie the builder dunked him in the bath. Yet he happilt went fishing with Joe. Shome mishtake shurely?
So Tony is supposed to have had not one, but two "massive" heart attacks. Do the current writers even understand what that means? What kind of permanant damage that would do? Not only did look the picture of good health less than a week later, but in a couple of weeks time will reportedly be fighting with Roy. Ridiculous!
I dont particularly like Freda either and didnt think the prosethetic leg was funny at all! Yes Tony has made a miraculous recover, they must have Llourds water in Weatherfield, Joe was suddenly cured as well, but how he has the cheek to go into the Health Centre after smashing it up I dont know!
Billy Niblick,
I'm not sure that David was as traumatised by the Hillman canal incident as you suggest.
Don't forget that he actively *chose* to drive his car in to the SAME canal to upstage Sarah on her wedding day!
I like the character of Tony.
Hmmm, guessing this one is going to be removed as well.
Loved the scene in the Barlows when George thought Blanche was Deidre that was so funny. The fireworks at the end of episode 2on Friday were going up so quickly I've never seen anything like it!!
