Coronation Street and the art of the Red Herring

Who do YOU think pushed Ken Barlow down the stairs and tried to kill him?  Do you think it's one of the characters above which ITV have given us as a possible suspect - or someone else?

I think it's someone else.  I suspect either crazy Chloe or stroppy Seb.  But that's just my own opinion and pure speculation.   I don't think it'll be one of the people above because, well, let's cast our minds back to Corrie's Who Killed Frank Foster? storyline.

Coronation Street gave us these five suspects for the murder of Frank - Michelle, Peter, Carla, Kevin and Sally.

And the killer of Frank Foster was none of the above, it was his own mum, Anne Foster!

But then again, Ken's attacker might just be one of those offered by ITV. 

In the Who Killed Tina McIntyre storyline, ITV offered four suspects - Carla and Peter (again), Tracy and Rob Donovan. And as we know, one of those in the picture, Rob Donovan, did turn out to the Tina's murderer.

So what do YOU think? Who do you think could have wanted to attack Ken - and why?

As our Assistant Script Editor, you will work across the entire editorial process attending story conferences and script meetings. You will work closely with our current team of Script Editors, Assistant Producer and Producer in ensuring continuity within all storylines​ and scripts​.

When required, you will provide cover for our Script Editors, so some script editing experience will be required for this role, although we will provide further training if necessary.

​Excellent administrative and organisational skills are required. A detailed knowledge of Coronation Street is essential.

Job Vacancy: Story Producer at Coronation Street

Do you have the ability to tell a story? Come and join our team of Producers responsible for working the Storylines and Scripts for Coronation Street.

As we transition to six episodes, Coronation Street is looking for an experienced Story Producer to join our busy hard working team, ensuring that every single one of our episodes are top quality entertainment.

Working to the Producer, Assistant Producer and the Creative Director of ITV Soaps, the Story Producer will translate the programme brief, work with the writing and story/script team to creatively define the style and content of the programme. The Story Producer will liaise with the production team to ensure the correct balance of cast and locations for ease of scheduling and will be responsible for the smooth running of the triple stand system, whilst maintaining the highest quality in terms of content. He/she will be an ideas person, who knows how to structure and tell an exciting story, and can translate that skill amongst your team.

The Story Producer will develop the storylines from conference through to scripts, primarily focusing on long-term story planning, and work with the story team in producing short-term storylines. He/she will co-chair commissioning and story conference with the Producers, and chair regular small groups out of conference with the story and writing team, to maintain constant creation of story and direction for characters.

The successful candidate will join us with experience as a Script Editor or Story Editor with a wide ranging knowledge of television production processes and an awareness of new developments across the media. We will be looking for demonstrable experience of effectively managing, motivating, monitoring and developing a team

Job Vacancy: Coronation Street 2nd Assistant Directors wanted

As we transition to six episodes, Coronation Street are looking for two experienced 2nd ADs to join their busy hard working team providing efficient back up to 1st Assistant Director ensuring smooth running of the shoot.

The 2nd Assistant Directors role is to be the main support to the 1st Assistant Director to ensure the smooth running of the block of episodes, to carry out efficient prep for the block and to keep the 1st Assistant Director informed of any changes or problems during the day, and provide proposed solutions. The role involves rescheduling where required, amending and re-issuing call sheets and liaising at all times with the 1st AD, Schedulers & Production Manager.

We will look to you to interpret accurately and promptly any instructions from the Production Manager to the 1st AD and have knowledge of all shoot activities on any day with ability to work across both as and when required to deal with cross overs, rescheduling and ensure all cast have their call times for the next day.

Our 2nd ADs will join us with previous experience of working within drama in this role, have excellent production knowledge and organisational skills. Enthusiasm and excellent communication skills are essential with the ability to work under pressure within schedule deadlines.

Due to the nature of the production absolute confidentiality is required.
